Paola Marcella Camargo Minoprio

Graduada em Biomedicina (1978), e aperfeiçoada em Imunoparasitologia pelo Instituto Pasteur de Lille (1979), é Mestre em Parasitologia (Universidade de São Paulo, Brasil, 1985) e Doutora em Imunologia (Paris 6, Sorbonne Université, França, 1989). Efetuou pós-doutoramento no Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle e no DNAX Research Center for Molecular and Celular Imunology, Palo Alto, USA. Obteve Qualificação em Gestão Empresarial e Gerência de projetos (Institut pour le Développement Économique et Technique, Paris, 2008) e um Mestrado em Inovação & Estratégias em Propriedade Intelectual (Universidade de Strasbourg, França, 2010). É chefe do laboratório de Processos Infecciosos à Tripanosomatídeos, Departamento de Saude Global, no Instituto Pasteur de Paris, onde trabalha desde 1984. É representante do Instituto Pasteur no escritório administrativo em Sao Paulo e Coordena a a Plataforma Científica Pasteur-USP no Centro d?Inovação InovaUSP, São Paulo, desde março de 2018, uma etapa que precede a criação do Instituto Pasteur do Brasil. Foi nomeada pelo governo francês em 2019 e pelos próximos 3 anos, Conselheira de Comércio Exterior da França (CCEx). Foi encarregada de Pesquisa concursada pelo Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Agronômicas da França (INRA) e trabalhou com Leucemia bovina (École Nacionale Vétérinaire d? Alfort, 1985). Primeira colocada no concurso de ingresso do Instituto Pasteur, fez carreira nos Departamentos de Imunologia e de Infecção e Epidemiologia a partir de 1986, ocupando sucessivamente os cargos de Assistente, Encarregada et Diretora de Pesquisa e Chefe de Laboratório. É autora de inúmeras publicações científicas e de um portfólio significativo de patentes (US, Europa, Brasil, China, Índia). Orientou várias teses de mestrado e doutorado, organizou diversos cursos e simpósios, nomeadamente os de Imunologia no Brasil patrocinados pela Yakult, contribuindo para a implementação de recursos humanos na área. Perita científica de várias agências nacionais e internacionais e de jornais científicos, foi membro do Steering Committee Pathogenesis & Applied Genomics da OMS (2004-07). Coordenou por 12 anos um curso de pós-graduação na Universidade de Paris 6, e também ministrou cursos na École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris. De 2000-05, articulou e implementou a rede AMSUD/Pasteur, uma cooperação científica e acadêmica entre o Instituto Pasteur e 55 instituições de 5 países do MERCOSUL. Atuou como Coordenadora Geral do Pólo Américas da Rede Internacional de Institutos Pasteur (RIIP). Articulou e implementou a afiliação da FIOCRUZ como membro da RIIP. Negociou e pôs em prática vários acordos de cooperação bilateral (i.e. FIOCRUZ/ Pasteur, FAPESP/ Pasteur, USP/Pasteur), mais de 20 cursos regionais no MERCOSUL e diversos projetos em parceria da rede AMSUD/Pasteur. Organizou jornadas de bioempresas no Brasil, Uruguai e Chile. Em 2015, implementou o acordo tripartite entre Pasteur / FIOCRUZ / USP, visando o desenvolvimento de iniciativas comuns entre os parceiros. Suas abordagens científicas, principalmente centradas nos mecanismos de escape e de persistência de parasitas no hospedeiro, são basicamente voltadas para o desenvolvimento de moléculas terapêuticas e/ou diagnósticas utilizando mitógenos parasitários como alvos. Usa uma estratégia multidisciplinar que inclui imunologia, biologia celular e molecular e imagiologia 2D-3D. Sua linha de pesquisa atual associa os modelos experimentais da Doença de Chagas e da tripanosomose animal, respectivamente causadas por Trypanosoma cruzi e T. vivax. Novas estratégias integradas com colegas da USP e da FIOCRUZ englobam modelos experimentais para estudo de desordens do sistema nervoso central causadas também por arboviroses.

Graduated in Biomedicine (1978), has a specialization in Imunoparasitology (Institut Pasteur Lille, 1979), a MSc of Parasitology (University of São Paulo, Brazil, 1985) and Ph.D in Immunology (P6, Sorbonne Université, France, 1989). She had followed post-doctoral studies at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle and The DNAX Research Center for Molecular and Cellular imunology, Palo Alto, USA. Obtained qualification in Business and Project Management (Institut pour le Développement économique et Technique, Paris, 2008) & a Master in Innovation & Intellectual Property Strategies (Strasbourg University, France, 2010). She is head of the laboratory Trypanosomatids Infectious Processes, Department of Global Health, at Institut Pasteur, Paris, where she has been working since 1984. From March 2018, she is coordinating the new Scientific Platform Pasteur-USP, at the University of São Paulo, a step towards the development of the ?Institut Pasteur do Brasil?. She was appointed by the French government in 2019 and for the next 3 years, French Foreign Trade Advisor (CCEx). She held an Associate Professor position at the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA, Maisons Alfort National Veterinary School), where she worked with bovine leukemia virus. In 1986, she was first placed on the concours of entry at the Institut Pasteur and undertook her career in the Departments of Immunology and Infection & Epidemiology, occupying successively the posts of Assistant Professor (Tenure track), Associate Professor and Senior Associate Professor, in charge of her Research Laboratory. She is the author of numerous scientific publications and holds a significant patent portfolio (U.S., Europe, Brazil , China, India). Supervised several masters and doctoral theses, organized a number of symposia and courses, including those of Immunology sponsored by Yakult in Brazil, contributing to the implementation of human resources in the area. Scientific expert for various national and international agencies and scientific journals, she was member of the WHO Steering Committee Pathogenesis & Applied Genomics (2004-07). She coordinated a postgraduate course at the University of Paris 6 and the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris. From 2000-05, negotiated and implemented the AMSUD / Pasteur network, a scientific and academic agreement between the Institut Pasteur and 55 MERCOSUR institutions. She was commissioned to act as General Coordinator of the Pole Americas of the International Network of Pasteur Institutes (RIIP). Conducted and settled the affiliation of FIOCRUZ to RIIP. Negotiated and implemented several bilateral cooperation agreements (i.e. FIOCRUZ / Pasteur, FAPESP / Pasteur), more than 20 regional MERCOSUR courses, several projects in partnership for AMSUD / Pasteur network and organized bio-entrepreneurship forums in Brazil, Uruguay and Chile. In 2015 she has implemented the tripartite agreement between Pasteur/FIOCRUZ/USP, aiming at the development of common initiatives between the partners. Her scientific approaches, mainly focusing on parasite mechanisms of escape and persistence in the host, basically aim at the development of therapeutic and / or diagnostic molecules using parasitic mitogens as targets. She pursues a multidisciplinary strategy that includes immunology, molecular and cell biology, and 2D and 3D imaging. Present researches mainly associate experimental models of Chagas? disease and of animal trypanosomosis, respectively, caused by Trypanosoma cruzi and T. vivax. New integrative strategies with colleagues from USP and FIOCRUZ include experimental models for the study of central nervous system disorders also caused by arboviruses.
