Cristiane Helena Squarize

Dr. Squarize is an Associate Professor with tenure and Principal Investigator of the Epithelial Biology Lab at the UM. She earned a DDS, followed by a Master?s degree and PhD in Oral Pathology. She won the prestigious Edward Hatton Award from the International Association for Dental Research for her head and neck cancer research. Before joining the University of Michigan in 2010, she completed her training and service on surgical and experimental pathology, followed by a five years fellowship at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, focusing on Stem Cell Biology and Epithelial Biology, as well as Oral and Pharyngeal Cancer. Dr. Squarize is also a member of the Michigan Medicine Rogel Cancer Center and the Division Leader on the UM SoD Global Initiative. Dr. Squarize established national and international collaborations to advance science and has mentored students from diverse backgrounds. The students in her laboratory are from many academic majors, including chemistry, biology, pharmacy, dentistry, medicine, computational science, among others. This interdisciplinary group of students and professionals works together towards the identification of solutions and novel treatments for epithelial cancers, and the promotion of regeneration of mucosa and skin.
