Antonio Jorge de Vasconcelos Forte
Antonio Jorge Forte MD, PhD, MS is a Professor of Plastic Surgery and a Consultant in the Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Department of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic in Florida. He's the Vice Chair of Research in the Department of Surgery since 2017. He obtained the Certification in the Subspecialty of Surgery of the Hand in 2018. He's a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery since 2016. He concluded a Hand and Microsurgery Fellowship at The Buncke Clinic in San Francisco (2015). He finished an Integrated Plastic Surgery Residency at Yale University School of Medicine (2014). He is a Magna Cum Laude Medical School graduate from Federal University of Ceara (2006), where he obtained a Masters Degree in Pharmacology (2009). Then, at University of Sao Paulo Medical School, he pursued a PhD in Sciences, Field: Clinical Surgery in the Field of Plastic Surgery - Craniofacial Surgery, under the guidance of Nivaldo Alonso MD, PhD (2017). He's also a member of the prestigious Harry J Buncke Society. He has been an invited Visiting Professor in 14 different academic centers and guest speaker in multiple international and national meetings. Moreover, he is the Principal Investigator of the Plastic Surgery Foundation National Endowment for Plastic Surgery Grant Award 2019, one of the most prestigious grants awarded by the American Society of Plastic Surgery. In addition, he's the Principal Investigator of a few grants awarded by the Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine and the Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Medicine.
Dr Forte has over 180 papers either published or accepted in peer reviewed journals, as well as multiple book chapters. He also serves as a member of the Editorial Board for Microsurgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery, as well as an invited reviewer for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery GO, Aesthetic Surgery Journal and HAND. Index H = 13 in 2021 according to Google Scholar. One of his papers, entitled "Z-mammaplasty", was the most read article by plastic surgeons in 2012 according to MEDSCAPE/WebMD. Received the award AMA Physician's Recognition Award of the American Medical Association in 2013 and 2016. Awarded Best craniomaxillofacial surgery presentation at the Annual Congress of the American Society of Plastic Surgery (ASPS) in 2014.
He received a scholarship at the Special Training program (PET-Medicina), a research scholarship by PIBIC-CNPq, he was a monitor in Physiology and Pathology, in addition to a cardiovascular research scholarship. He was also an Editor of the Revista Pesquisa Médica. He received a travel grant offered by Charite International Cooperation to participate at the II International Integrated Surgery course in Berlin, Germany, at the Humboldt University. Received DAAD scholarship to attend the German Language and Culture Winter Course at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Again, he was awarded the scholarship of UNIBRAL program, CAPES / DAAD cooperation, which allowed him to attend six months of internship in Internal Medicine at the Charité Universitätsmedizin, Berlin, Germany. Subsequently, held his Internship in Surgery in the United States, where he actively participated in the service of Wayne State Medical School, Northwestern University School of Medicine, University of Miami School of Medicine, Yale University - School of Medicine.
