Manoel Alvaro Lins Neto majored in medicine at the Federal University of Alagoas in Maceio, Brazil. In 2000, at São Paulo University, Brazil, he earned a doctorate in gastroenterology surgery. Presently, he holds the position of Full Professor of Gastroenterology Surgery at the Federal University of Alagoas. His areas of interest in research are colorectal cancer, molecular biology, intestinal constipation, HPV, and inflammatory bowel disease. He has medical experience with a concentration in coloproctology surgery, treating colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. His research on the topical therapy of HPV with an ointment was granted a patent.
Currently, he maintains an ambulatory service at the Federal Hospital Prof. Alberto Antunes (HUPAA) and collaborates with a psychiatrician, dietitian, and nurse to treat IBD patients. Currently, he is completing post-doctoral work at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Prof. Subrata Gosh and Dra.Marietta Iacucci. His research focuses on a novel endoscopic definition of mucosal inflammation and repair in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) using iScan and confocal laser endomicroscopy in vivo.
