Simone Nunes Brandão

Simone Nunes Brandão atua nas áreas de Paleontologia e Zoologia com foco em Ostracoda (Crustacea), e desenvolve projetos em Micropaleontologia, Paleoceanografia, Biogeografia, Biodiversidade, Taxonomia, Filogeografia? É Professora Adjunta da UFRPE. Foi Prof. Visitante da UESC (2022-2020) e da UFERSA (2018-2019). Atuou nos PPGs em Zoologia (UESC), Ecologia e Conservação (UFERSA), Sistemática e Evolução (UFRN,) Geodinâmica e Geofísica (UFRN). Leciona para graduação e pós disciplinas em diversas áreas de Paleontologia, Zoologia, Redação Científica, Mudanças Climáticas... É graduada (2000) e mestre (2002) em Ciências Biológicas (PPGZoo) pela UFRJ, e doutora em Ciências Naturais pela Universitaet Hamburg, Alemanha (2009). Em 2010 foi escolhida como membro pela renomeada rede alemã de excelência em pesquisa acadêmica da Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, sendo bolsista desta rede de 2010-2012. Entre 2010 e 2013, foi pós-doutoranda e pesquisadora convidada nas seguintes instituições: Alemanha (1) German Centre for Marine Biodiversity Research-Senckenberg Research Institute (2010-2012); (2) Universitaet Hamburg (2010-2012, 2013); e Bélgica (3) Ghent University (2012-2013). EM 2013, depois de quase 10 anos no exterior, voltou para o Brasil como pós-doutoranda bolsista Jovem Talento (Nível A, 2013-2016) do Programa Ciência sem Fronteiras, vinculada a projeto multidisciplinar desenvolvido no PPG Geodinâmica e Geofísica-UFRN. Atualmente, colabora com pesquisadores da Hanyang University (Coréia do Sul), International Ocean Discovery Program (EUA), Senckenberg Research Institute-German Centre for Marine Biodiversity Research (Hamburgo), Senckenberg Museum Frankfurt (Alemanha), Flanders Marine Institute (Bélgica) e The Hong Kong University (China). Nos últimos 20 anos, colaborou com pesquisadores em diversos outros países, como Brasil, Bélgica, Coréia do Sul, EUA, Inglaterra, Japão, Noruega, etc. Entre 2016 e 2019, negociou 6 acordos de cooperação internacional com universidades alemães, que, por motivos legais, foram assinados pelo Chefe de Departamento ou coordenador dos PPGs. Além destes, está negociando acordos com a Hanyang University (Coréia do Sul) e com o Senckenberg Research Institute. Participa há 15 anos de redes internacionais, sendo (1) idealizadora, editora chefe e curadora da World Ostracoda Database, além de (2) membro do Steering Committee do World Register of Marine Species; (3) editora do (3.1) World Register of Marine Species, e do (3.2) Register of Antarctic Species; (4) Assessora do Clube Humboldt do Brasil. Obteve dezenas de financiamentos para projetos científicos e viagens de instituições internacionais, brasileiras e alemães. Participou de treinamentos em metodologias e tecnologias de ponta em instituições de renome internacional, como microscopia eletrônica e curadoria de coleções zoológicas (The Natural History Museum, Inglaterra), synchrotron (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, França), estatística (Universitá di Pisa, Itália), morfometria (Karl-Franzens-Universitaet, Austria), biologia molecular (Institut Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique), genômica (Texas A & M University, EUA), bancos de dados relacionados a biodiversidade (Smithsonian Institution, EUA). Descreveu 127 novos táxons (1 família, 9 gêneros, 2 subgêneros e 115 espécies). Foi palestrante convidada em dois eventos internacionais, organizadora de dois workshops internacionais e uma reunião brasileira, e participou de +50 eventos científicos. É revisora de 42 periódicos científicos internacionais (p. ex. Anthropocene, Frontiers in Marine Science, Geology, Gondwana Research, J. of Micropalaeontology, J. of Systematic Palaeontology, e Palaeontology), e 4 nacionais. Simone Nunes Brandão researches on Paleontology and Zoology, with focus on Ostracoda (Crustacea), and develops projects in Micropaleontology, Paleoceanography, Biogeography, Biodiversity, Taxonomy, Phylogeography... She is an Adjunct Professor at UFRPE, and was Visiting Prof. at UESC (2022-2020) and UFERSA (2018-2019). She was docent in the Graduate Programs (PPG) in Zoology (UESC), Ecology and Conservation (UFERSA), Systematics and Evolution (UFRN,) Geodynamics and Geophysics (UFRN). She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in several areas of Paleontology, Zoology, Scientific Writing, Climate Change... She holds a Bachelor?s (2000) and a master's (2002) degree in Biological Sciences (PPGZoo) from UFRJ, and a PhD in Natural Sciences from the Universitaet Hamburg, Germany (2009). In 2010, she was chosen as a member of the renowned German network of excellence in academic research of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, being a fellow of this network from 2010-2012. Between 2010 and 2013, she was a postdoctoral fellow and guest researcher at the following institutions: Germany (1) German Center for Marine Biodiversity Research,-Senckenberg Research Institute (2010-2012); (2) Universitaet Hamburg (2010-2012, 2013); and Belgium (3) Ghent University (2012-2013). In 2013, after almost 10 years abroad, she returned to Brazil as a post-doctoral fellow at Young Talent (Level A, 2013-2016) of the Science without Borders Program, linked to a multidisciplinary project developed at the PPG Geodynamics and Geophysics-UFRN. She collaborates with researchers from Hanyang University (South Korea), International Ocean Discovery Program (USA), Senckenberg Research Institute-German Center for Marine Biodiversity Research (Hamburg), Senckenberg Museum Frankfurt (Germany), Flanders Marine Institute (Belgium) and The Hong Kong University (China). In the last 20 years, she collaborated with researchers in several other countries, such as Brazil, Belgium, USA, England, Japan, Norway, etc. Between 2016 and 2019, she negotiated 6 international cooperation agreements between Brazilian and German universities. In addition to these, it is negotiating agreements with Hanyang University (South Korea) and with the Senckenberg Research Institute. She participates in international networks for 15 years, being (1) creator, chief editor and curator of the World Ostracoda Database, and (2) member of the Steering Committee of the World Register of Marine Species; (3) editor of the (3.1) World Register of Marine Species, and(3.2) Register of Antarctic Species; (4) Advisor to the Humboldt Club of Brazil. She obtained dozens of grants for scientific projects and trips from international, Brazilian and German institutions. She participated in training on cutting-edge methodologies and technologies at internationally renowned institutions, such as electron microscopy and curatorship of zoological collections (The Natural History Museum, England), synchrotron (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, France), statistics (Universitá di Pisa, Italy) , morphometry (Karl-Franzens-Universitaet, Austria), molecular biology (Institut Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique), genomics (Texas A & M University, USA), biodiversity-related databases (Smithsonian Institution, USA). She described 127 new taxa (1 family, 9 genera, 2 subgenera and 115 species). She was a guest speaker at two international events, organizer of two international workshops and a Brazilian meeting, and participated in +50 scientific events. She is a reviewer for 42 international scientific journals (eg Anthropocene, Frontiers in Marine Science, Geology, Gondwana Research, J. of Micropalaeontology) and 4 Brazilian journals.
