Raquel Varela is a historian, researcher and university professor. Her main areas of interest are global labour history, history of labour relations, and contemporary history of Portugal. Starting Grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology / New University of Lisbon / IHC and Fellow of the International Institute for Social History (Amsterdam). International visiting professor at the Fluminense Federal University, where she teaches a chair in the area of global work history in the postgraduate program in History. She is an international evaluator of CNPQ / Brazil. Is coordinator of the international project of global history of work In The Same Boat? Shipbuilding industry, a global labor history at ISSH Amsterdam / The Netherlands. Author and coordinator of 25 books on labor history, the labor movement, global history. She published 51 articles in journals with scientific arbitration in the area of sociology, history, social service and political science indexed by ISI Thompson, CAPES Qualis A, Scopus, among others. They were translated into more than 200 lectures / classes per invitation held in more than 50 national and foreign institutions and in the coordination of 13 national and international projects funded in the last 4 years, among others, Evolution of the Medical Workforce in the SNS (Physicians? Ordinance / FCSH 2016), Living and Working Conditions of Teachers in Portugal (Fenprof / UNL 2018) and Port Work and Automation Study at the global level (UNL / International Dockworkers Council, 2015). Varela supervises 12 post-doctorates, doctorates, masters and sandwich-grants. She is editor of the academic publications Critique. Journal of Socialist Studies (Uni. Glasgow) and Workers of the World (IASSC). Varela is a member of the editorial board of several academic periodicals. She is the co-founder of the Network for Global Labor Studies (New Delhi / India). Varela is a guest member of the Board of Trustees of the ITH-International Conference of Labor and Social History (Austria), the oldest association of labor studies in Europe. She is also member of the European Network in Universal and Global History (ENIUGH). She is currently president of the International Association Strikes and Social Conflicts, a network that has 35 institutions from Northern and Southern Europe, USA and Latin America. Varela was scientifically responsible for the official celebrations of the 40th anniversary of April 25th (2014). Professora-visitante internacional da Universidade Federal Fluminense, onde leciona uma cadeira na área de história global do trabalho no programa de pós-graduação em História. É avaliadora internacional do CNPQ/Brasil. É coordenadora do projecto internacional de história global do trabalho In The Same Boat? Shipbuilding industry, a global labour history no ISSH Amsterdam/Holanda. Autora e coordenadora de 25 livros sobre história do trabalho, do movimento operário, história global. Publicou como autora 51 artigos em revistas com arbitragem científica, na área da sociologia, história, serviço social e ciência política indexados no ISI Thompson, CAPES Qualis A, Scopus, entre outros. Os mesmos traduziram-se em mais de 200 palestras/aulas por convite realizadas em mais de 50 instituições nacionais e estrangeiras e na coordenação de 13 projectos nacionais e internacionais financiados, nos últimos 4 anos.
