Has experience in Collective Health, acting on the following subjects: tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, health policies, social movements in heatlh, communities engagement in research.
Doctor in Sciences (DSc, PhD) in Health Policies at the Medical School of the Rio de Janeiro Federal University, August 2015. Doctorate internship at the New Zealands National Institute for Health Innovation (NIHI) at the University of Auckland (Summer 2013-14). Brazilian Ministry of Education (CAPES) and Ministry of Sciences and Technology (CNPq) scholarship recipient. Holds Masters Degree (MSc) in International Relations by the Institute of International Relations of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (2002). Graduated in Law by the Rio de Janeiro State University Law School in 1990 and enrolled as a member of the Brazilian Bar Association in 1991. Member of the WHO Guidelines Development Group (GDG) of LAM Diagnostics, LTBI, and Molecular Diagnostics (2019). Member of the WHO Civil Society Task Force (since 2018). Since 2015 is the Coordinator of the Community Engagement component of the STREAM study, by The Union/ Vital Strategies (VS) in Mongolia, Moldova, Georgia, India, South Africa, Uganda and Ethiopia, under USAID TREAT-TB grant. Has recently establish a Brazilian National TB CAB; is a member of the Global TB CAB since 2012; member of the REFLATE Scientific Committee; was a member of the CDCs TB Trials Consortium (TBTC) Community Research Advisory Board (CRAG) for five years. Has long experience in Community Engagement in TB since 2002 both in Brazil and internationally. In Brazil helped setting the first TB NGO Forum in Rio de Janeiro (2003) and in São Paulo (2004) and helped building the Brazilian Stop TB Partnership (2004). Has been involved in several international efforts to promoting capacity building of communities in TB, together with Treatment Action Group (TAG) since October. Helped since 2002 in countries in diverse countries. Coordinates the Social Mobilization area in the Brazilian TB Research Network (REDE-TB), with focus on Community Engagement in Research. Coordinated the Community Advisory Boards (CABs) component of the PROVE-IT (other TREAT-TB study). Responsible for the case study on the Pilot roll out for Xpert/MTB Rif for the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis in two municipalities in Brazil. Served in different International organizations and institutions: member of the Regional Green Light Committee by the Pan-American Health Organization (2011-12); member of the Stop TB Partnership Coordinating Board (2006-09); Served as the Country Focal Point to organize the Global TB Partners Forum in Rio de Janeiro in March 2009; Member of the Brazilian NTP Technical Advisory Panel (2009-2012). Speaker at the Opening Ceremony of the WHO Meeting of MDR TB High Burden Countries in Beijing, (2009). Member of the Affected Communities Delegation at The Global Fund ) 2005-07). Served as the Vice-Chair of the Brazilian Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM) at the same period, responsible for DOTS Expansion Strategy for 11 Metropolitan Regions in Brazil grant. In 2016 served as a consultant for the Global Fund in the CCM restructuring in St.Lucia. In 2010 and 2014 was a team member for Grants Management Solutions restructuring the Mozambican CCM, focusing on oversight. Has long experience in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) in diverse TB, HIV projects. Was responsible for writing and coordinating by Grupo Pela VIDDA-RJ the Buddy Project, home care program for people with AIDS in 9 Brazilian cities, from 1997 to 2006. Presented papers and was a speaker in many international AIDS conferences since 1996 and participated at all international TB (Union) conferences since 2002 (as speaker, facilitator, presenter). Was responsible for the initial social mobilization efforts in TB in Brazil in 2002 by means of the USAID grant managed by MSH (Management Sciences for Health) to the Rio de Janeiro State TB Control Program. Was a representative of the Brazilian AIDS Social Movement to the UNAIDS Theme Group (1998-2002). Recipient of the first Young Investigators Award", IAS Geneva (1998).
