Maria Carolina Braga Tuma

BA in Biological Sciences from the University of São Paulo (1989), Master in Physiology from the University of São Paulo (1993) and PhD in Anatomy and Cell Biology from Indiana University (Indianapolis, IN, USA) in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2000). He did postdoctoral studies at Yale University (2000 to 2002). He has a specialization in Pharmaceutical Management at Stevens Institute of Technology (2008, Hoboken, NJ, USA). Worked as a senior scientist from 2003 to 2009 at ImClone Systems (New York, NY, USA), in research and development of drugs for Oncology. As a project leader, worked with the development of small molecules and biologicals (antibodies), identification of target proteins for cancer and established a biomarker program. From 2010-2014 she was Director of Research and Development at Recepta Biopharma (São Paulo, SP), a biotechnology company dedicated to the research and development of drugs for Oncology, being responsible for research projects (Fapesp, CNPq, Finep) and supervision of researchers in centers of excellence - FMUSP, Instituto Butantan and UNIFESP, including supervision of postdoctoral students with CNPq grants. Co-author of an article awarded by Technological Innovation in Oncology (2013). Since 2015 focus research and teaching activities on Integrative Medicine and Health Promotion. Obtained specialization degrees in Integrative Medicine (Institute of Education and Research at Istarelita Albert Einstein Hospital, 2014) and in Integrative Health (University of Arizona / Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, 2018). Health Coach certified by the National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches (NBHWC), (degrees obtained by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (NY, NY, 2015) and University of Arizona / Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, 2019). Professor in the postgraduate course in Integrative Health and Welfare at the Albert Einstein Teaching and Research Institute since 2016, is responsible for Scientific Methodology and mentoring conclusion papers from students (doctors and other health professionals). Lectures on Biological Markers, Epigenetics, Psiconeuroimmunology, Placebo. Works as a collaborating researcher with the multidisciplinary research group PAPI (Early Childhood Care Program) at UNIFESP (Dept of Psychiatry), involved in the research of biological markers in several projects. Currently holds a position as a visiting professor at UNIFESP with the Collective Health department of Escola Paulista de Enfermagem. Advisor to master students.

Como líder de projetos, trabalhou com desenvolvimento de pequenas moléculas e biológicos (anticorpos), identificação de proteínas-alvo para câncer e estabeleceu programa de biomarcadores. De 2010-2014 foi Diretora de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento na Recepta Biopharma (São Paulo, SP) empresa de biotecnologia dedicada à pesquisa e desenvolvimento de drogas para Oncologia, sendo responsável por projetos de pesquisa (Fapesp, CNPq, Finep) e supervisão de pesquisadores em centros de excelência - FMUSP, Instituto Butantan e UNIFESP, incluindo supervisão de alunos de pós-doutorado com bolsas CNPq. É co-autora de artigo premiado por Inovação Tecnológica em Oncologia (2013). Desde 2015 mudou o foco de pesquisa e docência em Medicina Integrativa e Promoção de Saúde. Tem especialização em Medicina Integrativa (Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa do Hospital Istarelita Albert Einstein, 2014) e em Saúde Integrativa (University of Arizona/Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, 2018). É Health Coach certificada pelo National Board of Health and Wellness Coaches (NBHWC), com formações pelo Institute for Integrative Nutrition (NY, NY, 2015) e (University of Arizona/Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, 2019). Docente no curso de pós-graduação em Saúde Integrativa e Bem-Estar do Instituto de Ensino e Pesquisa Albert Einstein desde 2016, é responsável por Metodologia Científica, orientando monografias de conclusão de curso de médicos e outros profissionais da saúde. Ministra aulas sobre Marcadores Biológicos, Epigenética e Psiconeuroimunologia. Atua como pesquisadora colaboradora junto ao grupo multidisciplinar de pesquisa PAPI (Programa de Atenção à Primeira Infância) na UNIFESP (Depto de Psiquiatria), envolvida na pesquisa de marcadores biológicos em vários projetos. Atualmente é professora-visitante da UNIFESP junto ao departamento de Saúde Coletiva da Escola Paulista de Enfermagem. Orienta alunos de mestrado.
