Edgar de Andrade Xavier

He holds a degree in Journalism from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1963), a degree in Economics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1970), a Master's degree in Sociology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (1979), a PhD in Social Services from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (2004), and a Master's degree in Philosophy from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (2007). He is currently retired. His research focuses on free will (particularly on the incompatibility between materialism and free will and its implications) and on the relationship between physical cosmology and the hypothesis of God, with an emphasis on theistic and deistic conceptions.

Possui graduação em Jornalismo pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1963), graduação em Ciências Econômicas pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (1970), mestrado em Sociologia pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (1979), doutorado em Serviço Social pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (2004) e mestrado em Filosofia pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (2007). Atualmente está aposentado. Pesquisa sobre livre-arbítrio (particularmente sobre a incompatibilidade entre materialismo e livre-arbítrio e suas implicações) e sobre a relação entre a cosmologia física e a hipótese de Deus, dando ênfase às concepções teísta e deísta.
