Dr. Antônio Carlos dos Santos

Professor Titular de Ética e Filosofia Política do Departamento de Filosofia da UFS. Foi Professor Visitante junto à Université de Paris I - Sorbonne (2017-2018), graças ao Programa de Estágio Sênior no Exterior da CAPES. Pós-doutor em Filosofia pela Université de Sherbrooke, Canadá (2008-2009) e pela Universidade de São Paulo (2011). Fez estágio de pesquisa na Voltaire Foundation, em Oxford (2022). Doutor em Filosofia pela Universite de Paris X, Nanterre (2003), em cotutela com a Universidade de São Paulo. Mestre, também em Filosofia, pela Universidade de São Paulo (1997). Professor do Departamento de Filosofia da UFS desde 1992. Foi coordenador nacional do GT Filosofia da História e Modernidade (vinculado à ANPOF). É membro do corpo permanente dos Programas de Pós-graduação em Desenvolvimento e meio ambiente (Rede PRODEMA) e do Programa em Filosofia, ambos da UFS, além do Mestrado Profissional em Prestação Jurisdicional da UFT/ESMAT. Foi membro do Comité Assessor da Presidência da CAPES (Portaria 104, de 9/5/2018). Foi coordenador do Mestrado em Filosofia da UFS entre 2012 e 2015. Entre 2007-2009 fez parte do Comité de Ética em pesquisa em seres humanos da UFS (CEP). Faz parte da Comissão editorial da Revista Trans/form/ação (UNESP/Marília), dos Cadernos de Ética e Filosofia Política (USP), da Revista em Filosofia Sapere aude (PUCMG), da Revista Griot e Revista Ambivalências. Foi Coordenador Adjunto e, depois, Presidente da Câmara II (Ciências Humanas e Sociais) da Área Interdisciplinar da CAPES (2013-2017). Foi avaliador do Programa de Capacitação do Banco do SINAES/INEP. É pesquisador da Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa de Sergipe (FAPITEC-SE), onde já atuou por 3 mandatos na condição de membro do conselho científico. Publicou e organizou vários livros. Tem artigos e capítulos de livros publicados na Inglaterra (Voltaire Foundation), Alemanha (Brill Editor), Canadá (Les Éditions Béllarmin), França (Éditions Hermann), Bulgária (East-West Publishers), Peru (Fondo Editorial), além de periódicos internacionais e nacionais. Em 2023, foi eleito Membro do Comité Executivo da Société Internationale d' étude du dix-huitième siécle. Exerce o cargo de Presidente da Associação Brasileira de Estudos do século XVIII (ABES). É membro da Société Internationale Montesquieu e The John Locke Society. Tem experiência na área de Filosofia, com ênfase em Ética, Filosofia Política, Ética Ambiental e em temas como: Corrupção, República, Tolerância, Direitos Humanos, Ilustração, Século XVIII e Interdisciplinaridade. Suas pesquisas estão focadas em autores do século XVII e XVIII inglês e francês, respectivamente Bayle, Mandeville e Locke, Montesquieu, Rousseau e Voltaire e em temas filosóficos que envolvam a questão da ética ambiental.

Professor of Ethics and Political Philosophy at the Department of Philosophy of UFS. He was Visiting Professor at the Université de Paris I - Sorbonne (2017-2018), thanks to the CAPES Senior Internship Abroad Programme. Post-doctorate in Philosophy at the Université de Sherbrooke, Canada (2008-2009) and at the University of São Paulo (2011). He did a research internship at the Voltaire Foundation, Oxford (2022). PhD in Philosophy from the Universite de Paris X, Nanterre (2003), in cotutela with the University of São Paulo. Master's Degree, also in Philosophy, from the University of São Paulo (1997). Professor of the Department of Philosophy at UFS since 1992. He was national coordinator of the GT Filosofia da História e Modernidade (linked to ANPOF). He is a member of the permanent staff of the Postgraduate Programs in Development and Environment (Rede PRODEMA) and of the Philosophy Program, both at UFS, as well as of the Professional Master in Jurisdictional Rendering at UFT/ESMAT. He was a member of the Advisory Committee of the Presidency of CAPES (Ordinance 104, of 9/5/2018). He was coordinator of the Master in Philosophy at UFS between 2012 and 2015. Between 2007-2009 he was part of the Ethics Committee in research on human beings at UFS (CEP). He is part of the Editorial Committee of the Journal Trans/form/ação (UNESP/Marília), of the Cadernos de Ética e Filosofia Política (USP), of the Journal in Filosofia Sapere aude (PUCMG), of the Journal Griot and the Journal Ambivalências. He was Deputy Coordinator and then President of Chamber II (Human and Social Sciences) of the CAPES Interdisciplinary Area (2013-2017). He was an evaluator for the Capacitation Program of the SINAES/INEP Bank. He is a researcher at the Sergipe Research Support Foundation (FAPITEC-SE), where he has served for 3 terms as a member of the scientific council. He has published and organized several books. He has published articles and book chapters in England (Voltaire Foundation), Germany (Brill Editor), Canada (Les Éditions Béllarmin), France (Éditions Hermann), Bulgaria (East-West Publishers), Peru (Fondo Editorial), besides international and national journals. He is part of the Executive Committee of the Société Internationale d' étude du dix-huitième siécle as President of the Brazilian Association of Eighteenth-Century Studies (ABES). He is a member of the Société Internationale Montesquieu and The John Locke Society. He has experience in the area of Philosophy, with emphasis on Ethics, Political Philosophy, Environmental Ethics and on themes such as: Corruption, Republic, Tolerance, Human Rights, Illustration, XVIII Century and Interdisciplinarity. Her research is focused on English and French seventeenth and eighteenth century authors, respectively Bayle, Mandeville and Locke, Montesquieu, Rousseau and Voltaire and on philosophical topics that involve the issue of environmental ethics.
