Gulzar Khan

I am a molecular ecologist with background in population genetics, phylogenetics, speciation, biodiversity andconservation. I began my career as a plant systematists & taxonomist and moved into molecular ecology, mainlyworking on speciation, biodiversity and conservation utilizing tools from next generation phylogenetics, andpopulation genetics combined with ecological niche modelling. My research integrates knowledge of geneticdiversity into conservation strategies. Previous research projects include accessing hybridization andintrogression in some Melocactusspecies from eastern Brazil to see their effects on conservation by using ddRADseq protocol, population genetic structure in an microendemic and threatened cactus species from easternBrazil, taxonomic challenges posed by a naturally fragmented system in microendemic cactus species, andmolecular phylogenetics and comparative Phylogeography of Spiroides (Rosaceae) found on the QinghaiTibetan Plateau. I am committed to research about next generation biogeography, population genetics, evolution, and Phylogenomics to contribute towards conservation issues.
graduation at Bacharel em Ciências from University of Peshawar (2003), graduation at Master of Science in Botany from University of Peshawar (2006), master's at Plant Sciences from Faculty of Biological Sciences (2009) and doctorate at Molecular Ecology, Adaptation and Evolution from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (2014). Has experience in Botany, focusing on Applied Botany
