Michel Mendes

Doutor em Linguística (área de Estudos Clássicos/Latim) pelo Instituto de Estudos da Linguagem (IEL/UNICAMP - 2020). Possui mestrado em Linguística pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (2010) e graduação em História (IFCH - Bacharelado e Licenciatura) pela mesma universidade (2003). Atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: Música greco-romana, Antiguidade Clássica, literatura latina. Suas pesquisas, ao longo da pós-graduação, envolvem duas etapas: no mestrado foi feito um levantamento dos olhares romanos sobre a música, via textos latinos de diversos autores e gêneros literários, compreendidos entre o século I a.C. a I d.C. No doutorado foi realizada uma pesquisa mais específica acerca da investigação da recepção da teoria musical greco-romana pelos autores tardo-antigos, como Marciano Capela, Santo Agostinho e Boécio. A tese resultante deste trabalho tem foco específico numa análise comparativa do De Musica de Santo Agostinho com o De Institutione Musica de Boécio. Faz parte do Grupo de Pesquisa Intertextualidade na literatura latina: teorias e práticas intertextuais na literatura latina e sua recepção (registrado no CNPq) e é um dos membros fundadores do Grupo Brasileiro de Estudos sobre a Música Greco-Romana e sua Recepção.

PhD in Linguistics (Classic Studies/Latin) from the Institute of Language Studies (IEL/UNICAMP - 2020). He holds a master's degree in Linguistics from the State University of Campinas (2010) and a degree in History (IFCH-Bachelor and Licentiate) from the same university (2003). He works mainly on the following subjects: Greco-Roman Music, Classical Antiquity, Latin Literature. His researches, throughout his postgraduate studies, involve two stages: in the Master's, a survey of Roman views on music was carried out, via Latin texts by various authors and literary genres, ranging from the 1st century BC to the 1st AD. a more specific research on the investigation of the reception of Greco-Roman musical theory by late ancient authors, such as Martianus Capella, St. Augustine and Boethius. The thesis resulting from this work has a specific focus on a comparative analysis of Saint Augustine's De Musica with Boethius' De Institutione Musica. He is part of the Research Group Intertextuality in Latin Literature: Intertextual Theories and Practices in Latin Literature and Its Reception (registered at CNPq) and is one of the founding members of the Brazilian Group for Studies on Greco-Roman Music and its Reception.
