Cesar Rossas Mota Filho

Dr. Cesar Mota is Associate Professor in the Department of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil. He has a PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from North Carolina State University (USA, 2006), an MSc degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Nevada (USA, 2001) and a Bachelor?s in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Ceará (Brazil, 1998). He is the Coordinator of the National Institute of Science and Technology on Sustainable Sewage Treatment Plants (INCT-Sustainable STPs), funded by CNPq and FAPEMIG, and the Brazilian Network for Covid Monitoring in Sewage (Rede Covid Esgotos), a project supported by and developed in partnership with the National Water and Sanitation Agency (ANA), that monitors SARS-CoV-2 in the sewage of Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Curitiba, Fortaleza and Recife. In addition, Prof. Mota currently coordinates projects funded by the Royal Society (UK) and Brazilian research councils. His research interests are in the area of water quality engineering, with emphasis on biotechnology for water and wastewater treatment, sustainable, low-cost water/wastewater treatment processes, valorisation of wastes, and the use of sewage monitoring as an epidemiological tool. Before joining UFMG?s faculty, Dr. Mota held a permanent academic position at Newcastle University (United Kingdom), School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences (2007 to 2012), where he coordinated research projects funded by the Royal Society and the European Commission. He currently holds a CNPq Research Productivity Scholarship level 1D.

Dr. Cesar Mota é Professor Associado no Departamento de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental da UFMG. Possui doutorado em Engenharia Civil e Ambiental (North Carolina State University, EUA, 2006), mestrado em Engenharia Civil e Ambiental (University of Nevada, EUA, 2001) e graduação em Engenharia Civil (Universidade Federal do Ceará, 1998). É o coordenador do Instituto Nacional de Ciência e Tecnologia em ETEs Sustentáveis (INCT-ETEs Sustentáveis), financiado pelo CNPq e FAPEMIG, e coordena a Rede Covid Esgotos, projeto financiado e desenvolvido em parceria com a Agência Nacional de Águas e Saneamento Básico (ANA), que realiza o monitoramento do SARS-CoV-2 nos esgotos de Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Curitiba, Fortaleza e Recife. Além disso, o Dr. Mota atualmente coordena projetos de pesquisa financiados pela Royal Society (Reino Unido) e agências de fomento brasileiras. Atua nas áreas de tratamento de esgoto e água para abastecimento, com ênfase em recuperação de subprodutos do esgoto, sistemas microalgais de tratamento, remoção/inativação de organismos patogênicos de água e esgoto e uso do monitoramento de esgotos como ferramenta epidemiológica. Foi Professor do quadro permanente da Newcastle University, School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences (Reino Unido) de 2007 a 2012, onde coordenou projetos financiados pela Royal Society (Reino Unido) e pela Comissão Européia. É Bolsista de Produtividade em Pesquisa do CNPq - nível 1D.
