Natalia Nahas Carneiro Maia Calfat

Doctor in Political Science at the University of São Paulo (2022), master's degree in Political Science at the University of São Paulo completed in 2017, Bachelor degree in Social Sciences from the University of São Paulo completed in 2007 and post-graduate degree in Politics and International Relations at the Foundation School of Sociology and Politics of São Paulo (FESPSP) completed in 2013. Natalia was a visiting scholar at Harvard University (spring 2019 semester). She is a member since 2009 of the Study Group on Middle East and the Muslim World at the University of São Paulo (GT OMMM). Teaching Fellow at IPSA-USP Methods 2018 Summer School (9th Annual Summer School) for Basics of Causal Case Study Methods and Process Tracing Case Study with Prof. Derek Beach, University of Aarhus. Has monitored/assisted during the first half of 2018 the subject "Modern Political Theory" taught by Prof. Álvaro de Vita as a part of the undergraduate program on Social Sciences at the University of São Paulo (IRI). Monitors since October 2014 the Study Group 'Middle East and Muslim world' and maintains the group's website. Has assisted the subject 'Terrorism, Islam and Modernity' taught by Prof. Peter Demant as a part of the graduate program on International Relations at University of São Paulo (IRI). Teaching Fellow at IPSA-USP Methods 2017 Summer School (8th Annual Summer School) for Basics of Causal Case Study Methods and Using Case-Based Methods in Practice with Prof. Derek Beach, University of Aarhus. Since March 2014 is a weekly columnist at CEIRI Newspaper - 'Strategy Center, Intelligence and International Relations' covering International Politics and Middle East. She is currently director of culture at Icarabe, Institute of Arab Culture (2021-2022) and has been International Relations' director from 2015 to 2016; director of National Affairs (2017-2018) and secretary-general (2019-2020). Member of The British International Studies Association (BISA) and RC 14 Politics and Ethnicity within the International Political Science Association (IPSA) since 2020. Her research focuses on International Politics and conflicts, terrorism, confessionalism and power-sharing designs, post-colonialism in the Middle East, religious identity, and case studies. Possui mestrado em Ciência Política pela Universidade de São Paulo concluído em 2017, também com bolsa CAPES/PROEX, bacharelado em Ciências Sociais pela Universidade de São Paulo concluído em 2007 e pós-graduação em Política e Relações Internacionais pela Fundação Escola de Sociologia e Política de São Paulo (FESPSP) concluída em 2013. Foi visiting scholar na Universidade de Harvard (spring 2019 semester) e atualmente é colaboradora do Project on Shiism and Global Affairs no Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University. É integrante desde 2009 do Grupo de Trabalho sobre Oriente Médio e Mundo Muçulmano na Universidade de São Paulo (GT OMMM), vinculado ao Laboratório de Estudos da Ásia (LEA); desde 2021 é integrante do Centro de Estudos em Política, Relações Internacionais e Religião (CEPRIR - Universidade Federal do Pampa/Universidade Estadual da Paraíba) e do Núcleo de Direito Global e Desenvolvimento (NDGD) da FGV Direito São Paulo.Atua desde 2017 como Teaching Assistant na IPSA USP Summer School in Methods and Concepts in Political Sciences and International Relations nas disciplinas Basics of Causal Case Study Methods e Process Tracing Case Study ministradas pelo Prof. Derek Beach, University of Aarhus.
