Ilyas Siddique

Graduated in Tropical Environmental Science (2001) from The University of Aberdeen (Great Britain) in collaboration with the Institute of Fundamental Studies (Sri Lanka), PhD in Ecology (2008) from The University of Queensland (Australia). Postdoc in Biodiversity effects on Ecosystem Functioning and Services at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Currently Associate Professor (tenure) at the Department of Crop Science and permanent faculty in the Postgraduate Programs in Agroecosystems (PGA) and Plant Genetic Resources (RGV) at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and coordinates the Agroecological Agroforestry Network of Southern Brazil (Rede SAFAS). Teaches, researches and engages in outreach (extension) on socioecological multifunctionality in agroecosystems, synergies and tradeoffs among ecosystem services, Nature's Contributions to People, especially in agroforestry; agroecology; syntropic agriculture; forest succession; ecological restoration; biological, chemical and physical recovery of degraded soils; resilience of managed ecosystems; biogeochemical and water cycles; management of functional diversity. Teaches in Higher Education since 2001 at universities in the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Mexico, and Brazil. Acts on Board of Editors for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems. Fez pós-doutorado em Funções e Serviços Ecossistêmicos pela Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Atualmente é Professor Associado no Departamento de Fitotecnia e docente permanente nos Programas de Pós-Graduação em Agroecossistemas (PGA) e Recursos Genéticos Vegetais (RGV) da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC) e coordena a Rede de Sistemas Agroflorestais Agroecológicos do Sul do Brasil (Rede SAFAS). Atua em ensino, pesquisa e comunicação (extensão) sobre multifuncionalidade socioecológica em agroecossistemas, sinergias e tradeoffs entre serviços ecossistêmicos, contribuições da natureza para as pessoas, especialmente em sistemas agroflorestais; agroecologia; agricultura sintrópica; sucessão florestal; restauração ecológica; recuperação biológica, física e química de solos degradados; resiliência de ecossistemas manejados; ciclos biogeoquímicos e de água; manejo da diversidade funcional. Desde 2001 tem atuado no ensino superior em universidades na Grã Bretanha, Alemanha, Austrália, México e Brasil. Participa do painel de editores da revista Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems.
