Fábio Rocha Barbosa

Fábio Rocha Barbosa holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Federal University of Ceará, Brazil, along with a Master's degree and a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the same institution. His doctoral thesis proposed a new approach to detecting incipient faults in power transformers by analyzing the physical and chemical properties of insulating oil. His work involved the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques to improve the accuracy and reliability of this diagnosis method, a continuation and profounding of his Master's degree theme and that remains one of his current research focuses. He has been an Associated Full-time Professor at the Federal University of Piauí, Brazil, since 2012, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Electrical Engineering. He has also held several management positions within the university, including Coordinator of the Electrical Engineering Program and Sub-coordinator of the Graduate Program in Electrical Engineering. He has led various academic research projects, supervising graduate and undergraduate students, and his research interests are focused on the development and application of new technologies in Engineering, particularly in the areas of AI and Energy Efficiency, among other fields. In recent years, he has led several academic projects focused on developing new technologies for power systems applications, specifically using AI in a multidisciplinary way in various fields of Engineering, such as projects applying Machine Learning (a valuable branch of AI) to obtain better results in areas such as Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies, and lately, in language learning processes. Through these projects, he has gained extensive experience in project management, experimental design, and data analysis, as well as collaborating with other researchers and energy area partners. Throughout his career, he has published books, and numerous research papers in international journals and conference proceedings. He has received national awards and also served as a reviewer for academic associations and has been actively involved in professional societies. In addition to his academic and research work, he is committed to promoting science and technology education and outreach. He has been involved in several initiatives to engage with students and the wider public, including the organization of science fairs, workshops, and talks on topics related to technology, leadership, and other humanities topics.
