Juan Carlos Gonzalez Avella
I am working as a post-doc in Physics department at the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro PUC-RJ. I finished my Ph.D. in Physics in 2010 at the Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics, University of the Balearic Islands, in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, under the supervision of Professor Maxi San Miguel. My Ph.D.'s work was on Statistical Physics, and my thesis focused on models of social dynamics (opinion formation, culture propagation, mass media effects, complex networks), as well as on the study and analysis of dynamical systems on complex networks. Earlier, I got a M. Sc. in Physics under the direction of Professor Mario Cosenza, at Universidad de Los Andes, Mérida, Venezuela. My specialization there was on Chaos and Complex Systems, and my thesis was on nonlinear dynamics and Sociophysics. I have kept a scientific collaboration with Prof. Cosenza's group since then. I have expertise on theoretical modeling, Monte Carlo simulations and in the development of numerical methods for continuous and discrete dynamical systems, Big Data Analysis, and applications of network theory and Statistical Physics for the analysis of collective behaviors of populations, as well as the study of problems of opinion formation, culture dissemination, spread of epidemics on social networks, mass media effects, social learning, emergence of cooperation, analysis of interbank networks markets, the emergence and persistence of communities structures in real networks, through of coevolutionary network processes. My post-doctoral research has been on the analysis of fusions of Brazilian banks; the analysis of criminal networks in Brazil's main city, in collaboration with Brazil's Federal Police; the study and analysis of coevolutionary systems and the emergence of modular structures in networks. My work has also included teaching graduate courses on Statistical Mechanics and Complex Networks, and advising student for their Master's Thesis.
master's at Fisica from Universidad de Los Andes Venezuela (2006) and doctorate at Física from Universitat de les Illes Balears (2010). Has experience in Physics, focusing on Physics
