João Carlos Amoroso Botelho

He is an associate professor of the Department of Political Science at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and of the graduate programs in political science of the UFMG and the Federal University of Goiás (UFG), Brazil, and holds a Ph.D in political science from the University of Salamanca (USAL), Spain, and a master's degree in political science from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), Brazil. He was a visiting scholar at the University of Chile and at the Harvard University. He coordinates the thematic area of comparative politics of the Brazilian Association of Political Science (ABCP) and the research group Latin American Democratization in Comparative Perspective (DALC) of the Latin American Association of Political Science (ALACIP). He is a member of the Center for Legislative Studies (CEL), affiliated to the UFMG, and the research group Political Behavior and Quality of Democracy (COMPOQ), affiliated to the UFG. He had technical training in comparative and quantitative research methods in summer schools of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) and collaborated to a program of innovative teaching in political science at the University of Salamanca. His research topics are political regimes and institutions, comparative politics in Latin America, and regional integration.

É professor associado do Departamento de Ciência Política da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), docente dos programas de pós-graduação em Ciência Política da UFMG e da Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG), doutor em Ciência Política pela Universidad de Salamanca (USAL), da Espanha, e mestre em Ciências Sociais, com área de concentração em Ciência Política, pela PUC-SP. Realizou estágios pós-doutorais na Universidad de Chile e na Harvard University. Coordena a Área Temática de Política Comparada na Associação Brasileira de Ciência Política (ABCP) e o grupo Democratización de América Latina en Perspectiva Comparada (DALC), da Asociación Latinoamericana de Ciencia Política (ALACIP). Integra o Centro de Estudos Legislativos (CEL), da UFMG, e o grupo Comportamento Político e Qualidade da Democracia (COMPOQ), da UFG. Teve formação em métodos comparado e quantitativo de pesquisa por escolas de verão da International Political Science Association (IPSA) e colaborou com um programa de inovação docente em Ciência Política na USAL. Seus temas de pesquisa são instituições políticas, regimes, política comparada na América Latina e integração regional.
