Victor Diogenes Amaral da Silva

Dr Victor has degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Federal University of Bahia (2005), a master's degree (2008) and a doctorate in Animal Science in the Tropics from the Federal University of Bahia, with a sandwich doctorate at the Cellular and Molecular Neuropharmacology Laboratory of the Universidad de Chile (2012). He held a Postdoctoral degree in Neuropsychopharmacology at the Universidad de La Habana-Cuba and a Postdoctoral degree in Neurophysiology at the University of Portsmouth-United Kingdom. He was a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Portsmouth-UK (2021) and Howard University-USA (2022). He is the coordinator in Brazil of the academic, scientific and cultural cooperation between the Federal University of Bahia and Howard University and a Junior Visiting Researcher at the University of London. He develops research in the area of Neurobiology, Neurochemistry and Neuropharmacology of Parkinson's Disease, Cerebral Ischemia and other diseases that affect the central nervous system (CNS). He works mainly on the following topics: dopaminergic degeneration, morphology and function of CNS cells, neuroprotective action of plant-derived compounds, animal model and autophagy. He is currently Associate Professor I of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Institute of Health Sciences at the Federal University of Bahia, vice-coordinator of the Vivarium of the Institute of Health Sciences and of the Laboratory of Neurosciences - Group of Studies in Translational Psychiatry (GEPT) - UFBA; Researcher at the Laboratory of Neurochemistry and Cell Biology - UFBA.

Possui graduação em Medicina Veterinária pela Universidade Federal da Bahia (2005), mestrado (2008) e doutorado em Ciência Animal nos Trópicos pela Universidade Federal da Bahia, com doutorado sanduíche no Laboratório de Neurofarmacologia Celular y Molecular da Universidad de Chile (2012). Realizou Pós-doutorado em Neuropsicofarmacologia na Universidad de La Habana - Cuba e Pós-doutorado em Neurofisiologia na University of Portsmouth - Reino Unido. Foi Pesquisador Visitante na University of Portsmouth - Reino Unido (2021) e na Howard University - USA (2022). É coordenador no Brasil da cooperação acadêmica, científica e cultural entre as instituições Universidade Federal da Bahia e Howard University e Pesquisador Visitante Júnior na Universidade de Londres. No Brasil é Pesquisador CNPq Nivel 2 (BF). Desenvolve pesquisa na área de Neurobiologia, Neuroquímica e Neurofarmacologia da Doença de Parkinson, Isquemia Cerebral e outras enfermidades que acometem o sistema nervoso central (SNC). Atua principalmente nos seguintes temas: degeneração dopaminérgica, morfologia e função das células do SNC, ação neuroprotetora de compostos derivados de plantas, modelo animal e autofagia. Atualmente é Professor Associado I do Departamento de Bioquímica e Biofísica do Instituto de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade Federal da Bahia, vice-coordenador do Biotério do Instituto de Ciências da Saúde e do Laboratório de Neurociências- Grupo de Estudos em Psiquiatria Translacional (GEPT) - UFBA; Pesquisador do Laboratório de Neuroquímica e Biologia Celular - UFBA.
