As escolas de samba remetem a história do carnaval carioca como síntese de uma série de transformações e reinterpretações da cultura popular do Rio de Janeiro desde as primeiras décadas do século XX. Isso se deve às transformações histórico-espaciais ocasionadas pela nossa particular experiência de modernidade que ora se constituía. Partimos do pressuposto que essa invenção carnavalesca esteve e está inserida em uma realidade complexa e viva da formação social e cultural brasileira. O criador cultural é um sujeito histórico cuja liberdade de criação implica condicionamentos sociais e espaciais do seu tempo. Iremos defender a tese de que as escolas de samba são constituídas e atravessadas por ações das classes populares em conflito e negociação com as classes dominantes desde a fundação até os dias atuais. Nesse sentido é fundamental desvelar a relevância da espacialidade dessa dinâmica apontando para a ideia de que a sociedade se constitui mediante um espaço que lhe é próprio. Com base nessa discussão o objetivo geral desse trabalho é analisar as agremiações carnavalescas como resultado e resultante das contradições de consentimento e negação das classes trabalhadoras ao processo de produção do espaço urbano do Rio de Janeiro
The samba schools recall the history of the Carioca carnival as a synthesis of a series of transformations and reinterpretations of popular culture in Rio de Janeiro since the first decades of the 20th century. This is due to the historical-spatial transformations caused by our particular experience of modernity that was constituted. We start from the assumption that this carnival invention was and is inserted in a complex and living reality of the Brazilian social and cultural formation. The cultural creator is a historical subject whose freedom of creation implies social and spatial conditioning of his time. We will defend the thesis that the samba schools are constituted and crossed by actions of the popular classes in conflict and negotiation with the ruling classes from the foundation to the present day. In this sense it is fundamental to unveil the relevance of the spatiality of this dynamic pointing to the idea that society is constituted through a space that is its own. Based on this discussion the general objective of this work is to analyze the carnival associations as a result of the contradictions of consent and denial of the working classes to the process of production of the urban space of Rio de Janeiro
