In the contemporary context, the activities connected to the tertiary sector get a new dimension in the global economy, they expand and bring up to rear the activities associated to the agriculture and industry. That said, the tertiary activities promote transformations increasingly intense, fast and uneven that focus on the territory, beyond it reflects in the productive restructuring of fluminense metropolis. In this way, new areas are caught, suited and integrated with the circuit of capital gains, which indicates a new kind of using of the space. On the other side, other areas are excluded of this process. Then, the Nova Iguaçu city, placed on metropolitan periphery of Rio de Janeiro, is inserted in this context of productive restructuring and expansion of tertiary sector. The current economic aspects, as a result of the tertiary sector advance in the city, print their brands in the space and streamline the currently ongoing urbanization process, in the face of new way of living, new industry performance and the emergency in new equipaments for collective consumption. Thus, new system of goals and values that modify the space emerge and coexist with past structures that single out the previous society
No cenário contemporâneo, as atividades associadas ao terciário ganham uma nova dimensão na economia global, se expandem e deixam, parcialmente, à retaguarda as atividades associadas à agricultura e à indústria. Isso posto, essas promovem transformações cada vez mais intensas, velozes e desigualitárias que incidem sobre o território, refletindo a reestruturação produtiva da metrópole fluminense. Neste caminho, novas áreas são capturadas, apropriadas e integradas no circuito do capital, indicando novos usos para o espaço. Em contrapartida, áreas outras são excluídas desse processo. Neste contexto de reestruturação produtiva e expansão do terciário, insere-se Nova Iguaçu, localizada na periferia metropolitana do Rio de Janeiro. Os atuais contornos econômicos, reflexos do avanço do terciário na cidade, imprimem suas marcas no espaço e dinamizam o processo de urbanização, atualmente em curso, em face às novas formas de morar, às novas dinâmicas da indústria e à emergência de novos equipamentos de consumo. Desta forma, emergem novos sistemas de objetos e valores que modificam o espaço e coexistem com estruturas pretéritas que singularizavam a sociedade precedente
