O objetivo deste estudo é identificar e analisar as representações sociais de lutadores profissionais de Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) de elite sobre o desenvolvimento do fenômeno MMA na cidade do Rio de Janeiro. Os dados foram coletados por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas individuais. O estudo se justifica pelo impacto do MMA no Brasil e no mundo. Seu evento de maior expressão é o Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), que guarda estreita relação com a luta livre, nos eventos de vale-tudo. No primeiro capítulo, Artes marciais mistas, luta por afirmação e mercado da luta , analisou-se o contexto dos eventos de vale-tudo através da técnica da história oral e foram identificados índices da influência do vale-tudo no MMA. O segundo capítulo analisa a trajetória da luta livre no século XX. Os dados provêm de entrevistas realizadas com lutadores profissionais que narram a construção da luta livre no Rio de Janeiro e relatam sua participação na construção desta modalidade. O terceiro capítulo trata das Considerações sobre as regras do MMA , destacam-se as polêmicas nas mudanças das regras a partir de 2017. Constata-se que o MMA está em transição no contexto de identificação
The aim of this study is to identify and analyze the social representations of leading professional MMA fighters on the developing of the MMA phenomenon in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The data has been gathered through semi-structured individual interviews. The study is justified by the impact of MMA in Brazil and in the world. Its most expressive event is the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). This event holds close relation to wrestling at No Holds Barred events. In the first chapter, Mixed martial arts, fight for affirmation and market the fight , we analyze the context of No Holds Barred wrestling through oral history technique and identify influence indexes of No Holds Barred wrestling onto MMA. In the second chapter, we interviewed professional wrestlers who present us with a narrative of the creation of No Holds Barred wrestling in Rio de Janeiro and report us their participation in the creation of No Holds Barred wrestling. The third chapter is on the Considerations on MMA rules , in which the controversies over the 2017 changes are highlighted. The assumption here presented that MMA is in a transitioning period on the context of identification is verified in the conclusions of this study
