A cultura liberal que nasce com a República do Thermidor legará ao liberalismo francês um topos central, qual seja, o da incapacidade da liberdade republicana clássica em dar conta de formular uma solução institucional para a complexa sociedade comercial da Europa das luzes. Pretendemos demonstrar, a partir da obra de autores paradigmáticos da cultura liberal francesa do final do século XVIII e início do XIX Germaine de Staël, Benjamin Constant, René de Chateaubriand, François Guizot e Alexis de Tocqueville como os conceitos políticos fundamentais que sustentam a defesa do regime representativo e da liberdade política estão intrinsecamente ligados à crítica do jacobinismo como corrupção do modelo republicano dos antigos e a uma concepção da história como progresso. O presente trabalho concentra-se em compreender alguns dos conceitos centrais da linguagem política liberal como opinião pública , sociedade civil e progresso buscando entender como eles procuram dar legitimidade aos os fenômenos políticos da modernidade, que devem ser compreendidos a partir das dificuldades e dos problemas colocados pelo processo de democratização.
The liberal culture that is born with the Republico f 9 Thermidor will bequeath to the French liberalism a central topos, namely, the inability of classical republican liberty to formulate an institutional solution to the complex commercial society in Europe of lights. We intend to demonstrate, from the work of some paradigmatic authors of the French liberal culture of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth as Germaine de Staël,Benjamin Constant, René de Chateaubriand, François Guizot and Alexis de Tocqueville - how the fundamental political concepts that sustain the defense of representative government and freedom policy are inextricably linked to criticism of the jacobinism as a corruption attempt to rescue ancient republican models and a conception of history as progress. This work aims to comprehend some central concepts of the liberal polítical language as públic opinião , civil society and progress searching to sustain the legitimacy of the modern political dimension, and must be comprehended from the dificulties and problems places by the processo of democratization.
