Este trabalho visa a análise comparativa das vidas das duas personagens femininas nos romances Wide Sargasso Sea de Jean Rhys e The Grass is Singing de Doris Lessing. Ambas as histórias têm como contexto histórico-político-social o cenário da colonização britânica no Caribe, durante o século XIX e na África no século XX. As semelhanças entre as trajetórias das duas mulheres são reveladas na medida em que o enfoque das suas identidades subjetivas traz para o primeiro plano os aspectos emocionais e psicológicos que contribuíram largamente nas suas escolhas de vida e impulsionaram de uma maneira fatal e implacável seus trágicos destinos. Com base nas teorias e pensamentos de alguns filósofos e escritores como Edward Said que nos fala sobre os fatos relacionados às colonizações inglesas, Sigmund Freud, Frantz Fanon e Michel Foucault que irão nos ajudar a entender o lado psicológico das personagens. O trabalho irá discutir temas como identidade, sexualidade, casamento e a culminância da morte trágica das personagens femininas
This dissertation aims at a comparative analysis of two feminine characters lives in the novels Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys and The Grass is Singing by Doris Lessing. Both stories have as socio-political and historical context the British colonization in the Caribbean during the XIX century as well as in Africa in the XX century. The similarities between the lives of both characters are revealed as we focus on their subjective identities and bring to the foreground the emotional and psychological aspects that largely contributed in the choices of their lives and impelled their tragic destinies in a fatal and implacable way. With the support of some theorists thoughts like Edward Said who speaks about facts concerned with the English colonizations, Sigmund Freud, Frantz Fanon, and Michel Foucault who will help us to understand the characters psychological side. This work will discuss colonial society, identity, sexuality, marriage and the culmination of their tragic deaths
