Esta dissertação tem por objetivo investigar a teoria da arte de Fernando Pessoa, como disposta em seus poemas e textos teóricos. Partindo do princípio de que para Pessoa, a Arte e a Morte andam juntas, analisaremos em alguns poemas como essa metáfora aparece e como ela é definidora da sua teoria poética. Para isto, centraremos a nossa análise no poema Ela canta, pobre ceifeira , de Fernando Pessoa. Considerando a herança literária de Fernando Pessoa, o presente estudo investiga de que maneiras Pessoa dialoga com os poetas românticos, especialmente com William Wordsworth, William Blake e John Keats. Para contrapor o nosso estudo, iremos nos deter no poema de Wordsworth The Solitary Reaper [ A ceifeira Solitária ], E finalmente, para exemplificar a teoria aqui disposta, um texto de ficção procura demonstrar, de forma literária, a questão razão versus emoção diante da presença da morte.

The object of this thesis is an investigation of Fernando Pessoa s theory of Art, as described in his poems and theoretical texts. Starting from the principle that, for Pessoa, Art and Death are connected, we shall analyse a few of his poems to show how he uses this metaphor, and how it defines Pessoa s poetic theory. To do so, we shall focus our analysis on his poem Ela canta, pobre ceifeira [ She sings, the poor reaper ]. Taking into account the literary legacy of Fernando Pessoa, this thesis investigates the several ways in which Pessoa interacts with the Romantic poets, specifically with William Wordsworth, William Blake and John Keats. As a counterpoint to our study, we shall examine Wordsworth s poem The Solitary Reaper . And finally, to provide an example of the theory proposed herein, a fictional text seeks to demonstrate in literary form the reason-emotion problem in the face of death.
