Esta dissertação apresenta como tema o estabelecimento da família Gurgel do Amaral na capitania do Rio de Janeiro nos primeiros decênios do século dezessete. Os objetivos centrais do estudo, portanto, orientam-se no sentido de analisar os processos históricos pelos quais passaram e participaram os integrantes desta estirpe no Rio de Janeiro seiscentista. Tendo sido elaborado a partir da pesquisa de conjunto variado de fontes (cartoriais, oficiais, correspondência entre governadores e etc.), este trabalho foi estruturado de modo a abordar questões referentes ao modus operandis da sociedade carioca seiscentista. Portanto, a especificidade do processo de estabelecimento do prisioneiro francês, Toussaint Grugel, e a maneira a qual foi iniciado no mais alto grau da sociedade luso colonial do Rio de Janeiro seiscentista, em muito nos auxiliou na forma como percebemos o funcionamento desta sociedade. Levando em consideração a teia organizacional das famílias que compunham o corpo das elites seiscentistas, podemos observar o comportamento de muitos integrantes da família analisada e percebermos com isto, as engrenagens políticas que uniam os dois lados do Atlântico: Colônia e Metrópole. Questões referentes ao funcionamento interno dos meios de transmissão dos cabedais familiares podem ser vistos a partir das heranças e sua passagem geracional. E par isto, a formação dos padres na família foi peça chave para esta engrenagem. As moçoilas, por sua vez, integravam este complexo sistema através dos matrimônios, e logo, o acesso aos cargos e fortunas dos noivos recém chegados. A família Gurgel do Amaral contou ainda com um mecanismo que lhes permitiu o acesso aos potentados da região de modo a se fortalecerem enquanto bandos,o parentesco espiritual. Fenômeno que permitiu a esta estirpe integração necessária para sua sobrevivência, enquanto família, e aumento de suas fortunas e poderio político. Assim estruturada, esta dissertação pretende contribuir para o entendimento da história das elites coloniais seiscentistas no Rio de Janeiro no momento da valorização dos conquistadores; bem como a recuperação da história da cidade do Rio de Janeiro naquele contexto.
This dissertation presents the theme of the family setting Gurgel do Amaral in the captaincy of Rio de Janeiro in the early decades of the seventeenth century. The main objectives of the study, therefore, are oriented in order to analyze the historical processes through which passed and was attended by members of this strain in the eventeenth-century Rio de Janeiro. Having been drawn from the wide range of research sources (notary, official correspondence between the governors and so on.) This work has been structured to address issues concerning the modus operandi of seventeenth-century Rio society. Therefore, the specificity of the process of establishment of the French prisoner, Toussaint Grugel, and the way which was initiated at the highest level of society's colonial Luso seventeenth century Rio de Janeiro, helped us a lot in the way we perceive the functioning of society. Taking into account the organizational web of families that made up the body of seventeenth-century elites, we can observe the behavior of many family members and analyzed to realize this, political machineries that united the two sides of the Atlantic: Colony and Metropole. Issues relating to the internal functioning of the means of transmission of the leather family can be seen from the generational inheritance and its passage. And alongside this, the training of priests in the family was a key for this gear.The young ladies, in turn, are part of this complex system through marriages, and soon, access to jobs and fortunes of the couple newcomers. The family Gurgel do Amaral also had a mechanism that allowed them access to the potentates of the region in order to become stronger as a band, the spiritual relationship. Phenomenon that allowed this strain integration necessary for their survival as a family and increase their wealth and political power. So structured, this thesis aims to contribute to the understanding of the history of seventeenth-century colonial elites in Rio de Janeiro at the time of recovery of the conquerors, and the recovery of the history of the city of Rio de Janeiro in that context.
