The LME started its activities as an open user facility in March 1999. Since it belongs to a National Laboratory, it has users from all over Brazil offering analytical techniques with high spatial resolution for strategic researches like nano-science and nanotechnology. Often, knowledge developed in this laboratory may be applied, favoring the Brazilian economy. The research performed at the LME by its users embrace many field like, for instance: Semiconductor Physics; Catalysts (chemistry);Gas sensors (chemistry); Parasitology (biology); Ceramics (material engineering); Metallurgy (material engineering); Fuel Cells (Physical-chemistry); etc¿Moreover, the laboratory has users from many institutions. A partial list of these institutions is: CBPF, CENPRA, CTA, INMETRO, INPA, INPE, IPEN, PUC-RJ, PUC-Campinas, PUC-SP, UFC, UFPE, UFMG, UFMT, UFRGS, UFRJ, UFSCar, UNB, UNESP, UNG, UNICAMP, UNICENP, UNIMEP, UniVap, UNLP, USF, USP, UEL, UFPR, UFSC, UFOP, among others.
