GEMa's investigations are distributed in 3 fronts: (1) use of High Pressure - High Temperatures in the syntheses, and sintering of superhard materials (Diamond and cubic boron nitride - CBN), and hard materials such as carbides, oxides, nitrides, and especial metals. New materials for oil & gas industry drills are proposed. New materials for use as inserts for metalworking are developed ; (2) this second branch deals with the processing of cutting tools by means of hot-pressing (conventional or pulsed electric current sintering - PECS). The aim is to develop new alloys to adhere Diamond crystals so that tools' performance and lifetime are increased. Diamond tools are industrially produced. Metal matrix and ceramic matrix composites are PECS sintered, aiming at tailored properties for metalworking tools; (3) this line processes innovative biomaterials, such as titanium, refractory and especial alloys, advanced and natural ceramics. Characterizations include In-Vitro and In-Vivo tests.
