He holds a Bachelor of Science em Botany - University of California, Davis, USA (1990), Master in Florestal Sciences - Universita degli Studi di Torino, Italy (1982) and Ph. D. (doutorado) in Botany - University of Texas at Austin, USA (1996). He worked for seven years as Scientist (Assitant Curator) at the New York Botanical Garden, USA (1996-2003), one year as Visiting Scientist at the National Herbarium of the Netherlads atUtrecht, Netherlands (2004) and four years as Visiting Scientist and Professor at the Federa University of Goias at Goiania, Brazil (2004-2008). Scientist at the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, AMAP, Montpellier, France. Currently, he is Head of Research at the Herbier de Guyane (IRD), Cayenne, French Guiana, France (2009-) e Coordinator of the GAP Network, France-Brazil cooperation for the study of the vegetation of French Guiana (France), Amapá and Pará (Brazil). Is member of the Graduate Program of the University of Montpellier (Montpellier, França), Old Dominon University (Norfolk, USA) and of the Museu Goeldi/Universidade Federal Rural da Amazonia (Belém, Brasil). He has experience in Botany, with emphasis in Systematics and Floristics of Rubiaceae, Balanophoraceae and Apodanthaceae, acting mosty in the fields of molecular phylogeny, taxonomy, systematics, floristics, ecology, biogeography, conservation, and historical travels of naturalists in the Neotropics.

Pesquisador no Institut de Recherche pour le Développement - IRD, UMR AMAP, Montpellier, França (2008-2009). Atualmente Responsavel pela Pesquisa do Herbário da Guiana Francesa (IRD), Caiena, Guiana Francesa (2009-) e Coordenador da Rede GAP, rede de colaboração franco-brasiliera pelo estudo da vegetação da Guiana Francesa (França), Amapá e Pará (Brasil). Faz parte do Programa de Pos-Graduaçao da Universidade de Montpellier (Montpellier, França), Old Dominon University (Norfolk, USA) e do Museu Goeldi/Universidade Federal Rural da Amazonia (Belém, Brasil). Tem experiência na área de Botânica, com ênfase em Sistematica e Floristica de Rubiaceae, Balanophoraceae e Apodanthaceae, atuando principalmente nos seguintes campos: filogenia molecular, taxonomia, sistemática, floristica, ecologia, biogeografia, conservação e viagens historica de naturalistas no Neotropico.
