Marcellus Marques Caldas

Marcellus Caldas is Full Professor (Professor Titular) at Kansas State University. Caldas has a Phd. from University of São Paulo College of Agriculture (Brazil), a PhD from Michigan State University, and a Post Doctoral training in the Center for International Development at Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He has significant international experience and a history of teaching, research and administrative experiences. Caldas was a department chair at Federal University of Bahia-Brazil (College of Agriculture), Vice-Director of the Graduate School in the College of Agriculture, and a member of the faculty senate. At Kansas State University, Caldas was Director of International Research and Faculty Collaboration in the Office of International Programs (OIP). Now, he is Assistant Provost for International Collaboration and Educational Programs. He provides leadership, support and advice to K-State faculty members in all disciplines in identifying and developing international collaboration opportunities to maximize faculty international experiences. He leads and coordinates general K-State faculty collaboration to include scholarly international collaboration research, as well as organize faculty activities, incentive grants, travel and relationship building in key countries. In addition, he helps to move forward the engagement for K-State 2025 Internationalization Strategic Plan by facilitating the development of K-State student/faculty research projects in connection with international partners. Caldas oversight the International Planning and Analyzes in the office of international programs. He represents the Office of International Programs in the Associate Deans Research Council, in the College Advisory International Council, and in the Global Campus Advisory Council. Caldas areas of expertise includes : Land Use and Land Cover Change; Agricultural Policies and Agribusiness; Applications of GIS and Remote Sensing to the Environment.
graduation at Economia from Pontificie Universidade Catolica (1984), master's at Economy from Universidade Federal de Viçosa (1987), doctorate at Economia Aplicada from Universidade de Sao Paulo/Michigan State University/Sanduiche (2000) and doctorate at Geography from Michigan State University (2008). Has experience in Economics, acting on the following subjects: deforestation, remote sensing, desmatamento, políticas públicas and comércio internacional.
