Sebastiao Ercules Melo de Oliveira

Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems) in 1969 from the National School of Engineering, University of Brazil (now UFRJ), M.Sc. (1973) and Ph.D. (1985), both in Electrical Engineering, COPPE / UFRJ. He is currently a Full Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Polytechnic School, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and an Invited Professor at the Electrical Engineering Program of COPPE / UFRJ. He has teaching and research experience in Electric Power Systems, mainly in the following areas: power system dynamics, electric machines, direct current transmission and power system protection. He has been acting, since 2002, as the coordinator and an instructor of the Specialization Course in Power System Protection, a 412 hours post-graduation program, lato-sensu level, offered to the main electrical power companies in generation, transmission ad distribution areas by the Polytechnic School of UFRJ. Six versions of the course were offered involving more than 120 engineers from the referred brazilian companies. He offered also in 2011, as the coordinator and the instructor, the first extension course of 120 hours in "Operation, Control and Protection Fundamentals of Direct Current Transmission on Extra High Power and Voltage" to 23 engineers of the companies interested in the long distance transmission of the Amazon.

Graduado em Engenharia Elétrica (Sistemas de Potência) em 1969 pela Escola Nacional de Engenharia, Universidade do Brasil (atual UFRJ), com mestrado (1973) e doutorado (1985), ambos em Engenharia Elétrica, pela COPPE/UFRJ. Atualmente é Professor Titular da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, lotado no Departamento de Engenharia Elétrica da Escola Politécnica e Professor Convidado do Programa de Engenharia Elétrica da COPPE/UFRJ. Tem experiência na área de Sistemas Elétricos de Potência, atuando principalmente nas seguintes áreas: dinâmica de sistemas elétricos de potência, máquinas elétricas, transmissão em corrente contínua e proteção de sistemas elétricos. Vem atuando ainda, desde 2002, como coordenador e instrutor do Curso de Especialização em Proteção de Sistemas Elétricos, um programa de pós-graduação de 420 horas a nível lato sensu, oferecido em base anual pela Escola Politécnica da UFRJ. Seis versões do curso foram oferecidas envolvendo mais de 120 alunos engenheiros da maioria das empresas de geração e transmissão brasileiras. Ofereceu em 2011, como coordenador e instrutor, o primeiro curso de extensão em "Fundamentos da Operação, do Controle e da Proteção dos Sistemas de Transmissão em Corrente Continua em Extras Altas Potência e Tensão" a 23 engenheiros das empresas interessadas na Transmissão da Amazônia, com carga horária de 120 horas.
