Ten years of flight testing at EMBRAER with progressing roles and responsibilities have enabled me to connect with all the engineering disciplines, from conceptual design to in depth discussions of systems, reliability, flying qualities and performance during the course of many full scale certification campaigns of all recent EMBRAER E-Jets. I have, since 2002, been appointed as an RCE (representante credenciado de engenharia) of ANAC (Agencia Nacional de Aviação Civil), which is the equivalent of a FAA DER. Thus, my interface with certification authorities has been intense, building confidence to be delegated to jobs from flight test witness to certification report analysis.I also interfaced with foreign authorities to represent EMBRAER during certification basis discussions, performing flight tests and presenting results to the FAA and EASA.Since the beginning of the EMBRAER 170 program, I have been actively involved with flying qualities and was the flight test PIO specialist. Being a pilot myself, this subject always fascinated me, and the knowledge building process culminated with a company sponsored research program and a PhD thesis, establishing my link with the Academia. International exposure came during the AIAA conventions where I could discuss the subject with world class professionals like Dave Mitchell and Dave Klyde.I have also introduced a new product design team from scratch, dedicated to Supplemental Type Certificates. This team had full scope: understand the customers needs, provide a timely and fair quotation, do the actual design, certification and deliver engineering solutions for customer driven modifications. The team also exercised product support functions, having direct contact with customers. In this role, I had to forge many alliances between the main aircraft engineering team and the STC team to allow for the exchange of information and experience. The team successfully accomplish the first ever Brazilian STC to be validated (via bi-lateral agreement) with the FAA and also with EASA.More recently, I have been working at the energy sector with GE, allowing me to have yet another view of engineering processes on a truly global enterprise.
