Full Professor at the Department of Biochemistry at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), where she works since 1998. Graduated in Pharmacy at UFRGS (1985), with a degree in Biochemical Pharmacist: Clinical Analysis Laboratory (1986), Master in Biological Sciences (Biochemistry) from UFRGS (1988) and Doctorate (Doctor of Philosophy, PhD) from the United Medical and Dental Schools (UMDS) of Guys and St. Thomas Hospitals of the University of London (now King´s College), London, United Kingdom (1995). She was Pharmaceutical Biochemist of the Biochemistry Unit of the Clinical Pathology Service and Pharmaceutical Biochemistry of the Medical Genetics Service Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA) from 1987 to 1994. She held a post-doctoral fellow position at Paediatrics Department of Oxford University, working at the Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, United Kingdom (1995). He was a recent PhD student from CNPq working at the Medical Genetics Service of the HCPA in the area of molecular genetics (1996 to 1998). She served as a member and, later, as Coordinator of the Extension Committee (COMEX) of the Institute of Basic Health Sciences (ICBS) of UFRGS (1999-2006). She served as a member of the Research Commission (COMPESQ) of ICBS - UFRGS from May 2008 to April 2010 and as a member of the Undergraduate Commission (COMGRAD) of Pharmacy Course ? UFRGS from March 2009 to March 2011. She is a member of the following scientific societies: Society for the Study of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (SSIEM), Brazilian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (SBBq), Brazilian Society of Genetics (SBG) and Brazilian Society of Medical Genetics (SBGM). She is currently Permanent Advisor Professor of the following Graduate Programs: Biochemistry, Genetics and Molecular Biology and Cellular and Molecular Biology at the same University. She is a member of the University Council (CONSUN) of UFRGS since 2016 and a member of the HEFORSHE Committee of UFRGS (UN Women initiative). She is also a member of the National Biosafety Technical Commission (CTNBio) since 2021. She is a professor at the Medical Genetics Service (SGM) of HCPA, being the head of the Laboratorial Genetics Unit, where she has been performing care activities, and the Translational Neurogenetics Laboratory of the Experimental Research Center (CPE) - HCPA since 2005, where she performs her research activities. She works in the areas of biochemistry, cell and molecular biology and molecular genetics, with research projects addressing hereditary diseases, molecular analysis of genomic variants, genetic identification and epigenetic factors, with focus on neurogenetics.

Foi bolsista recém-doutor do CNPq atuando no Serviço de Genética Médica (SGM) do HCPA na área de genética molecular (1996 a 1998). É professora do Serviço de Genética Médica (SGM) do Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA), atualmente na Chefia da Unidade de Genética Laboratorial, onde desempenha atividades assistenciais, e o Laboratório de Neurogenética Translacional do Centro de Pesquisa Experimental (CPE) do HCPA desde 2005, onde desempenha atividades de pesquisa. Atua nas áreas de bioquímica, biologia celular e molecular e genética molecular, com projetos de pesquisa abordando doenças hereditárias, análise molecular de variantes genômicas, identificação genética e fatores epigenéticos, com ênfase em neurogenética.
