Mariana Fernandes de Menezes Kaufman

Mariana Kaufman is a filmmaker and visual artist from Rio de Janeiro, a partner at Fagulha Filmes. Graduated in Cinema in UFF, studied screenwritting at NYU and post graduated in screewirtting in PUC RJ where she is taking now her master degree in Literature, Culture and Contemporary at PUC RJ. She wrote and directed, with Jo Serfaty, "Confetti", 2012 ("best direction in FEMINA" and selected in the festivals Edinburgh, Havana, FIDOCS, Festival of Rio etc.) and "The lighthouse Island" 2017 (Havana Film Festival, Curitiba Int?l Film Festival). Also wrote and directed the films "Still Life", 2016 (Curta Cinema, PirenópolisDoc.) and "Mehr Licht!", 2017 (EdinburghIFF, Festival du Nouveau Cinema, Cine Ceará, Semana dos Realizadores, Bogoshorts). She participated in the Bolivian Art Biennial and was part of art exhibitions in places like Casa França Brasil among others, and received an honorable mention in the II Reynaldo Roels Jr. Award at the Modern Art Museum in Rio de Janeiro together with the Parque Lage school of visual arts. Mariana is also cinema curator and has organized Retrospectives and film programmes such as the first Jia Zhangke retrospective in Brazil organizing and editing books about it. She was at the beagining of the year at an artistic residence in Lisbon and is currently in pre-production of the new experimental short film to be shooted in 16mm "Photosynthesis" (contemplated in the Riofilme government fund) and writes the fiction series "Nightwalks", contemplated in the Ancine / FSA fund.

Mariana Kaufman é cineasta e artista visual carioca, sócia da Fagulha Filmes. Graduou-se em Cinema na UFF, Desenho Indústrial na ESDI/UERJ, estudou roteiro na NYU, é mestranda em Literatura na PUC RJ onde também pós-graduou-se em roteiro. Escreveu e dirigiu, com Jo Serfaty, ?Confete?, 2012 (?melhor direção no FEMINA? e selecionado nos festivais Edimburgo, Havana, FIDOCS, Festival do Rio etc.) e ?A ilha do farol?, 2017 (Olhar de Cinema de Curitiba). Realizou também os filmes ?Natureza Morta?, 2016 (Curta Cinema, PirenópolisDoc.) e ?Mehr Licht!?, 2017 (Edimburgo, CineCeará). Participou da residência artística no Largo, em Lisboa, da Bienal de Arte da Bolivia, exposições na Casa França Brasil, Parque Lage etc. e recebeu menção honrosa no II Prêmio Reynaldo Roels Jr. MAM / EAV. Foi curadora de mostras de cinema (e organizou livros) como a retrospectiva Jia Zhangke na Caixa Cultural, entre outras. Atualmente está em pré-produção do curta ?Fotossíntese? (contemplado no edital da Riofilme) e escreve a série de ficção ?Notívagos?, contemplada no edital Ancine/FSA.
