Pedro Alexandre Favoretto Galante

He holds a degree in Molecular Sciences from the University of São Paulo (2003), completed his Ph.D. in Biochemistry, also at the University of São Paulo (2007), and conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University in the USA (2008). Between 2009 and 2011, he held the position of Senior Researcher at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. He served on the board of the Brazilian Association of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (AB3C) from 2010 to 2014. Currently, he serves as a Senior Researcher at the Sírio-Libanês Institute of Teaching and Research at Sírio-Libanês Hospital, and he also acts as a Volunteer Professor at the University of São Paulo (Department of Biochemistry). His expertise encompasses Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, Genomics, and Cancer research. His research interests include a profound understanding of the following topics: i) Exploring the function of retrotransposable elements in the human genome and in other mammals, aiming to unveil their functional implications. ii) Investigating the role of post-transcriptional gene regulation in the origin and maintenance of tumoral processes, contributing to a broader and more comprehensive knowledge of cancer. iii) Identifying new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for aggressive tumors, aiming to develop more effective treatment strategies. iv) Developing innovative computational tools and algorithms in the fields of bioinformatics, genomics, and transcriptomics, enhancing the analytical and interpretive capacities of these research areas. Currently, he has more than 100 scientific articles published in high-impact international journals and has successfully mentored students who are now active in renowned institutions in Brazil, the United States, and Europe.

Possui formação em Ciências Moleculares pela Universidade de São Paulo (2003), concluiu seu Doutorado em Bioquímica também pela Universidade de São Paulo (2007) e pós-doutorado na Universidade de Harvard, nos EUA (2008). Entre 2009 e 2011, exerceu a função de Pesquisador Pleno no Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research. Foi membro da diretoria da Associação Brasileira de Bioinformática e Biologia Computacional (AB3C) de 2010 a 2014. Atualmente é Pesquisador Sênior no Instituto Sírio-Libanês de Ensino e Pesquisa do Hospital Sírio-Libanês e também atua como Professor voluntário na Universidade de São Paulo (Departamento de Bioquímica). Possui expertise em Bioinformática, Ciência da Computação, Biologia Molecular, Genômica e Câncer. Como linhas de pesquisa, pode-se destacar a compreensão aprofundada dos seguintes tópicos: i) Explorar a função dos elementos retrotransponíveis no genoma humano e de outros mamíferos, com o intuito de desvendar suas implicações funcionais. ii) Investigar o papel da regulação gênica pós-transcricional na origem e manutenção de processos tumorais, contribuindo para um conhecimento mais amplo e abrangente do câncer. iii) Identificar novos biomarcadores e alvos terapêuticos para tumores agressivos, visando ao desenvolvimento de estratégias de tratamento mais eficazes. iv) Desenvolver ferramentas e algoritmos computacionais inovadores nas áreas de bioinformática, genômica e transcriptômica, impulsionando a capacidade analítica e interpretativa desses campos de pesquisa. Atualmente possui mais de 100 artigos científicos publicados em revistas internacionais de alto impacto e já formou alunos que atuam em instituições de renome no Brasil, Estados Unidos e Europa.
