Geraldo Pompeu Junior

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of Campinas/UNICAMP (1980) and master's (1989) and Ph.D. (1992) in Mathematics Education by the University of East Anglia and Cambridge University/England, respectively. He is currently a Professor at the Federal University of São Carlos, Sorocaba Campus. Acts in the area of teacher training in mathematics, with an emphasis on: (1) teaching and learning process based on mathematical modelling, and (2) evaluation and curriculum development. In the last years, oriented: (a) Course?s Works Conclusion in Mathematics; (b) Scientific Research Works (IC) financed by FAPESP and CNPq (IC Junior); (c) Monographs of Postgraduate Courses "Lato Sensu" in Mathematical Modeling; and, (d) Professional master's dissertations, with scholarships from the Department of Education of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Currently, orients a Course?s Work Conclusion in mathematics, at the Federal University of São Carlos, Sorocaba Campus. The main published works were: (i) in 1997, co-authored with Guida de Abreu and Alan j. Bishop, a book's chapter titled "What children and teachers count as mathematics", in the book "Learning and Teaching Mathematics: an international perspective", edited by Terezinha Nunes and Peter Bryant; (ii) in 2001, co-authored with Alexandrina Monteiro, a book entitled "Mathematics and the cross-cutting issues", edited by the Editora Moderna; (iii) in 2005, along with Rodney c. Bassanezi, an article titled "A study of alternative modeling: Apple rot", in Biomathematics Journal, from the IME/UNICAMP; (iv) in 2013, organized, in conjunction with Maria Salett Biembengut and Emilia Melo Vieira, the book "Modeling [in] common: a tribute to Rodney Carlos Bassanezi", edited by UFABC, in which wrote, in co-authorship with Paulo Roberto Guimarães, the Chapter "Eight of may of 2013, a happy day or a sad day?"; and (v) in 2015, wrote, in co-authored with Henrique Marins de Carvalho and Rodney Carlos Bassanezi, a paper called "A mathematical Modeling applied to the study of two forms of artistic representation", in the Spanish Electronic Magazine "Modelling in Science Education and Learning".

Possui graduação em Licenciatura em Matemática pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas / UNICAMP (1980) e mestrado (1989) e Ph.D. (1992) em Educação Matemática pelas University of East Anglia e Cambridge University / Inglaterra, respectivamente. Atualmente é Professor Doutor da Universidade Federal de São Carlos, Campus de Sorocaba. Atua na área de Formação Docente em Matemática, com ênfase em: (1) Processo de ensino e aprendizagem baseado na Modelagem Matemática, e (2) Avaliação e desenvolvimento curricular. Nos últimos anos, orientou: (a) Trabalhos de Conclusão de Curso de Licenciatura em Matemática; (b) Trabalhos de Iniciação Científica (IC), financiados pela FAPESP e CNPq (IC Junior); (c) Monografias de Cursos de Pós-Graduação ?Lato Sensu? em Modelagem Matemática; e, (d) Dissertações de Mestrado Profissionalizante, com bolsas da Secretaria de Educação do Estado de São Paulo, Brasil. Atualmente orienta um Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso em Matemática, pela UFSCar - Sorocaba. Os principais trabalhos publicados foram: (i) em 1997, em coautoria com Guida de Abreu e Alan J. Bishop, o capítulo de livro intitulado ?What children and teachers count as mathematics?, no livro ?Learning and Teaching Mathematics: an international perspective?, editado por Terezinha Nunes e Peter Bryant; (ii) em 2001, em coautoria com Alexandrina Monteiro, o livro intitulado ?A Matemática e os Temas Transversais?, pela Editora Moderna; (iii) em 2005, juntamente com Rodney C. Bassanezi, o artigo intitulado ?Um estudo de modelagens alternativas: a podridão da maçã?, na Revista Biomatemática, do IME/UNICAMP; (iv) em 2013, organizou, em conjunto com Maria Salett Biembengut e Emília Melo Vieira, o Livro "Modelagem [em] Comum: um Tributo a Rodney Carlos Bassanezi", editado pela UFABC, no qual escreveu, em coautoria com Paulo Roberto Guimarães, o capítulo "Oito de maio de 2013, um dia feliz ou um dia triste?"; e (v) em 2015, escreveu, em coautoria com Henrique Marins de Carvalho e Rodney Carlos Bassanezi, o artigo "A mathematical Modeling applied to the study of two forms of artistic representations", publicado pela Revista eletrônica espanhola "Modelling in Science Education and Learning".
