Biologist, Ph.D. in Natural Sciences (Plant Genetics) from the University of Vienna, Austria (1992). With a postdoc in Plant Evolution at the University of São Paulo (1992-1994) and in Plant Molecular Biology at the Goethe Universität, Frankfurt, Germany (1998-1999). In 1994, joined the Department of Genetics at the Federal University of Pernambuco, where she is currently Full Professor and head of the Laboratory of Plant Genetics and Biotechnology (http://www.lgbv-ufpe.net/). Is a 1A productivity fellow by CNPq, with experience in the area of Genetics, with emphasis on Bioinformatics applied to Omics, Molecular Systematics, and Molecular Cytogenetics. Was twice coordinator of the Graduate Program in Genetics (UFPE), Head of the Genetics Dept. (UFPE), and President of the Brazilian Society of Genetics (2020-2022), besides presiding the SBG Regional for Pernambuco (2010-2012) and for the Northeast (2017-2018). Organized 38 events, 13 of which as president. Participated as a member of the Advisory Committee of the area of Genetics at CNPq (2017-2020), of Biological Sciences at FACEPE (2012-2016) and CAPES (Biological Sciences I). Actually, coordinates the InterSys Network, the Cowpea Genomics Consortium, and the Vitis Omics Network. Is member of the Pernambuco Academy of Sciences since 2021. Currently acts as the first secretary of the Brazilian Society of Genetics (2022-2024). Has been active in several movements in favor of Women in Science and non-discrimination against members of the LGBT community in scientific research. Coordinates projects aimed at university-school interaction and dissemination of science to the population.
Bióloga, com PhD em Ciências Naturais (Genética Vegetal) pela Universidade de Viena, Áustria (obtenção 1992). Realizou pós-doutorado na área de Evolução Vegetal na Universidade de São Paulo (1992-1994) e em Biologia Molecular Vegetal pela Goethe Universität, Frankfurt, Alemanha (1998-1999). Ingressou em 1994 no Departamento de Genética da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, onde atualmente é Professora Titular e chefia o Laboratório de Genética e Biotecnologia Vegetal (http://www.lgbv-ufpe.net/). É bolsista de produtividade 1A pelo CNPq. Tem experiência na área de Genética, com ênfase em Bioinformática aplicada às Ômicas, Sistemática Molecular e Citogenética Molecular. Foi duas vezes coordenadora do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Genética (UFPE), Chefe do Depto. de Genética (UFPE) e Presidente da Sociedade Brasileira de Genética (2020-2022) e da Regional da SBG para Pernambuco (2010-2012) e para o Nordeste (2017-2018). Atuou na organização de 38 eventos, sendo 13 como presidente. Participou como membro do Comitê Assessor da área de Genética no CNPq (2017-2020), de Ciências Biológicas na FACEPE (2012-2016) e da CAPES (área de Ciências Biológicas I). Coordena as redes de ômicas InterSys Network, NordEST, Cowpea Genomics Consortium e Vitis Omics Network. Membro da Academia Pernambucana de Ciências desde 2021. Atualmente é primeira secretária da Sociedade Brasileira de Genética (2022-2024). Tem atuado em diversos movimentos Mulheres na Ciência, em prol da não discriminação de membros da comunidade LGBT na pesquisa científica e na pós-graduação, além de coordenar projetos visando à interação universidade-escola.
