Marcos Edgar Herkenhoff

I have a bachelor's degree in Veterinary Medicine (State University of Santa Catarina, UDESC, 2010), Master's degree in Animal Production (UDESC, 2013) and a PhD in Biological Sciences - Genetics (Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, UNESP, Botucatu campus, 2017 ). During my PhD with a FAPESP scholarship, I did a sandwich PhD internship in Germany, at the Technischen Hochschule Wildau, under the guidance of Prof. Marcus Frohme. I worked and published works in the following areas: Human and animal Molecular Diagnosis; Population genetics of birds and fish using microsatellites and mtDNA; Bird immunogenetics; miRNAs and Gene Regulation in fish; Proteome; Genetics focused on athletic performance in humans and horses; and human and equine nutrigenomics. He was founding partner and responsible veterinarian for the Equus Group, where he worked in the area of genetics in horses with characteristics related to high athletic performance. Currently, I work in the area of microbiology and applied molecular biology in beer technology, in particular, in the development of non-conventional beers, such as beers with probiotics, sours and without alcohol.

Possui bacharelado em Medicina Veterinária (Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina, UDESC, 2010), Mestrado em Produção Animal (UDESC, 2013) e doutorado em Ciências Biológicas - Genética (Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, UNESP, campus Botucatu, 2017). Durante o seu doutorado, realizou um estágio de doutorado-sanduíche na Alemanha, no Technischen Hochschule Wildau, sob orientação do Prof. Marcus Frohme. Atuou e publicou trabalhos nas seguintes áreas: Diagnóstico Molecular humano e animal; Genética de Populações de aves e peixes com emprego de microssatélites e mtDNA; Imunogenética de aves; miRNAs e Regulação Gênica em peixes; Proteoma; Genética voltada à performance atlética em humanos e equinos; e Nutrigenômica de humanos e equinos. Foi sócio fundador e veterinário responsável pela Equus Group, onde atuou na área de genética em equinos com características relacionadas a alta performance atlética. Atualmente, trabalha na área de microbiologia e biologia molecular aplicada na tecnologia de cerveja, em especial, no desenvolvimento de cervejas não-convencionais, como cervejas com probióticos, sours e sem álcool.
