Bacharel, mestre, doutor e livre-docente em direito, é professor associado da Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de São Paulo (Departamento de Filosofia e Teoria Geral do Direito) e advogado. Foi pesquisador bolsista no Instituto Max Planck para Direito Penal Estrangeiro e Internacional (Alemanha), no Center for Latin American Studies da American University em Washington-DC (EUA) e no Centre for Socio-Legal Studies da Universidade de Oxford (Reino Unido).
