Márcia Kauer Sant´Anna

Dr. Kauer-SantAnna MD, PhD is psychiatrist and professor of Faculty of Medicine, at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Her PhD was in biochemistry at UFRGS. During her PhD, She joined the Mood Disorders Center at the University of British Columbia, Canada. She also completed a post-doctorate fellowship in mood disorders at the same institution. Currently, besides her position at department of psychiatry - UFRGS, she is also professor of the post-graduate programs of psychiatry and of biochemistry, as well as supervisor of the residency program in psychiatry at Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. To date, Professor Kauer-SantAnna has published 156 articles, with an h-index of 43 and a total of 6174 citations according to ISI and according to Google Scholar, h=49, and 10766 citations. Based on her commitment to research and productivity, she got 5 awards, including the Samuel Gershon Award for Young Investigators, the American Psychiatric Association-AstraZeneca Young Minds in Psychiatry, Lilly-ISBD fellowship award, NARSAD Young investigator award, research grants and a productivity-award from the Brazilian government agency CNPq. She has also been nominated and elected as affiliate member of the Brazilian Academy of Science. She is mother of Laura and Gabriel and was on maternity leave in 2016 and 2020.Dr. Kauer-SantAnna has a special interest in the effects of stress in bipolar disorder and cognition. Also, the long-term effects of bipolar disorder when compared to early stages have been her focus of interest. Her work on biomarkers in this area has contributed to the notion that there are progressive biological changes in bipolar disorder.

Médica pela UFRGS e psiquiatra pelo Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. Concluiu seu doutorado em Ciências Biológicas: Bioquímica na UFRGS. Realizou parte de seu doutorado e o pós-doutorado na University of British Columbia, Canadá. Em paralelo, fez uma especialização (Clinical Fellow) na Mood Disorders Clinic, na mesma universidade. Após, iniciou suas atividades como professora do Departamento de Psiquiatria e Medicina Legal da UFRGS. Faz parte do corpo docente permanente do Pós-graduação em Psiquiatria e Ciências do Comportamento e do Pós-graduação em Ciências Biológicas:Bioquímica, da UFRGS. É supervisora do Programa de Residência Médica em Psiquiatria e do ambulatório de atendimento ao Transtorno Bipolar do Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. Atualmente, já orientou 12 teses doutorado, 5 mestrados, além de ter em andamento, 3 orientações de doutorado e 1de pós-doutorado. Apresenta cerca de 156 trabalhos publicados indexados e de acordo com ISI, índice h=43 e 6174 citações; e segundo Google Scholar, h=49 e 10766 citações; indice i10=103. Por mérito de seus projetos, já recebeu 5 prêmios internacionais, 3 editais universais CNPq, bolsa de produtividade em pesquisa CNPq nível 1 e foi eleita membro afiliado da Academia Brasileira de Ciências. É mãe de Laura e Gabriel e esteve em licença maternidade em 2016 e 2020.
