Gisele Dalva Secco

I pursued my undergraduate studies in Philosophy at the UFSM (2000-2003), where I also got my masters degree with a thesis on some philosophical aspects of the standard system for deontic logic (A Kantian reading of the standard deontic logic, 2006). My Ph.D. dissertation, entitled Between proofs and experiments: a Wittgensteinian reading of the philosophical controversies surrounding the Four-Color Theorem proof, was written under Luiz Carlos Pereira advising (at PUC-Rio/Brasil). The thesis won the 2014 annual national award conceded by the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education ? CAPES ? to the best Ph.D. thesis of the year. After working as a researcher and assistant professor at the Philosophy Department of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS 2013-2018), I am currently an associate professor at the Philosophy Department of the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM). My last relevant publications include papers and chapters about the uses of computers in mathematical practices, some Wittgensteinian themes on the philosophy of mathematical practice as well as the development of an interpretation of Wittgenstein?s early philosophy of mathematics from the perspective of the Leibnizian tradition on symbolic knowledge. My current research project is entitled Mathematical practices and symbolic knowledge: a Wittgensteinian perspective. I?ve recently applied for a scholarship for research at the National Council of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq) with a project named The interaction between diagrams and computers in the proofs of the Four-Color Theorem. I am an associated member of the Cono Sur Group for the Philosophy of Formal Sciences since 2013, and member of the Association for the Philosophy of Mathematical Practice since 2015. It seems worth to notice that I have been working in the philosophy of formal sciences since early in my career, always with a particular interest in the relations between more advanced areas of research and extra-academic contexts ? mainly Brazilian High Schools. I have taught introductory courses on logic since I was an undergraduate student, and in recent years, as a tenured professor, I dedicate myself to the preparation of High School teachers, focusing on the development of logic skills as an interdisciplinary means to teach philosophy. Regarding gender issues in Brazilian research, together with two colleagues from UFRGS I organized a conference (in 2017) and a book called Feminine Voices in Philosophy (2018). Since then I have dedicated myself to the development of some pedagogical initiatives aiming to encourage girls to study logic from a philosophical point of view.
É membro associado do Grupo Conesul de Filosofia das Ciências Formais (GCFCF) e da Association for the Philosophy of Mathematical Practice (APMP).
