A rhetorician at Texas A&M University, I am interested in the complex intersections between art, science, rhetoric, and democracy, particularly as theorized and practiced by the Greek Sophists and the American Pragmatists. I believe it is true that which John Dewey stated after long reflection: "Creation, not acquisition, is the measure of a nation's rank; it is the only road to an enduring place in the admiring memory of mankind." Rhetoric is an act of creation deployed to reveal better versions of ourselves in the midst of uncertainty, crisis, and possibility.
