Gianluca Castignani

I am currently a PhD student in Astrophysics at SISSA (Trieste, Italy, supervisors: Profs G. De Zotti and A. Celotti) working on observational extra-galactic and high-energy astrophysics and cosmology. My research interests include high-redshift clusters of galaxies, active galactic nuclei, radio galaxies, blazars, black hole mass estimates, gamma ray burst and blazar variability, dark matter and rotation curves of spirals.I will defend my PhD thesis on October 29, 2014. I previously obtained my MSc in Physics under the supervision of Prof. Elena Pian (Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa). I did my undergraduate (BSc) and postgraduate (MSc) studies in Physics at the University of Pisa and the Scuola Normale Superiore, with fellowship, from 2005 to 2010.During a substantial part of my PhD training I worked at the STScI under the supervision of Dr. Marco Chiaberge (STScI, JHU) and collaborating with Prof. Colin Norman (STScI, JHU).
bachelor's at Physics from Universitá di Pisa (2008) and master's at Theoretical Physics from Universitá di Pisa (2010). Has experience in Astronomy, focusing on Extragalactic Astrophysics, acting on the following subjects: active galactic nuclei, observational cosmology, clusters of galaxies, blazar and extra-galactic astrophysics.
