Joao Oliveira is Co-founder and Director of Scenario Automation and retired Professor of Mechanical Engineering at University of São Paulo. He is 1A level Researcher by the Brazilian National Council of Research (CNPq) and expert in Advanced Manufacturing, especially on precision processes, monitoring systems and manufacturing for surface functionalization. From 2008 through 2012 he served as President and CEO of the State of São Paulo Institute for Technological Research ? IPT. He was co-founder and first President of EMBRAPII, the Brazilian Agency for Innovation in Industry (2012-2015) and Vice Presidente of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (2015-2019). In 2013 he was the advisor for the Brazilian Minister of Science and Technology of Brazil in the G7 + BRICS S&T Ministers Carnegie meetings in Washington DC. In February/March 2016 he has got the Russel Severance Spring Professor position at the University of California at Berkeley - USA. He received several major science awards in Brazil, including the Great-Cross of the National Order of Scientific Merit by the Presidency of Brazil; the Conrado Wessel Award, the Personality of Technology Award by the São Paulo Association of Engineers; and the SAP Americas Innovation Award. Prof. Oliveira has worked as a consultant on precision manufacturing for the global automotive industry worldwide including BMW, Hyundai, Chrysler, Mitsubishi, TRW, Saint Gobain, among others. He currently serves as member of the Board of FAPESP, CBMM, EMBRAPII, ANPEI, DRCLAS and INSPER. He is Fellow/member of the Brazilian Academy of Science and the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP). Prof. Oliveira has published over 250 papers in journals, conferences, magazines and newspapers, one book and 14 book chapters and holds five patents.
Possui Graduação em Engenharia Mecânica (1982), Doutorado (1988) e Livre Docência (1992) em Engenharia Mecânica pela Universidade de São Paulo - Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos e Pós Doutorado pela University of California - Berkeley (1994). Foi Diretor Presidente do IPT - Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas do Estado de São Paulo de 2008 a 2012. Foi também co-fundador e primeiro Presidente da Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa e Inovação Industrial - EMBRAPII e Vice-Presidente da Academia Brasileira de Ciências. Professor Titular aposentado da Escola de Engenharia de São Carlos da Universidade de São Paulo. É Membro Titular da Academia Brasileira de Ciências e Fellow da International Academy for Production Engineering - CIRP. Orientou 30 dissertações de Mestrado e 18 teses de Doutorado. Tem cerca de 250 trabalhos publicados em periódicos, congressos, revistas e jornais e 5 patentes no INPI e exterior. Foi condecorado com a Comenda (2007) e a Grã-Cruz (2010) da Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico da Presidência da República do Brasil. Recebeu o Prêmio FCW - Ciência e Cultura na Categoria Ciência Aplicada da Fundação Conrado Wessel (2010); recebeu o Prêmio Anísio Teixeira por contribuição à educação e pesquisa (2011) ; o Prêmio Personalidade da Tecnologia do Sindicato dos Engenheiros de SP (2001) e o SAP Americas Innovation Award (2000). Atualmente participa do Conselho Superior da Fapesp, do Conselho Consultivo do Harvard David Rockefeller Center for Latim American Studies, do Conselho de Administração da CBMM e do Conselho Deliberativo do INSPER.
