Ângelo Brandelli Costa

Angelo Brandelli Costa is an associate professor of social psychology at the Graduate Program in Psychology, the Graduate Program in Social Sciences, and the Graduate Program in Medicine and Health Sciences at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS). He is the coordinator of the Research Group Prejudice, Vulnerability, and Psychosocial Processes (PVPP/PUCRS). Graduated in Psychology from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), he is a specialist in Social and Health Psychology (CFP), Master in Social and Institutional Psychology (PPGPSI/UFRGS), Ph.D. in Psychology (PPGPSICO/UFRGS), and with a postdoctoral internship at PPGPSICO/UFRGS. Currently he also is an associate researcher at the Gender Identity Program at the Hospital de Clinicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA). Angelo already worked as a consultant for UNAIDS in the coordination of the Stigma Index Brazil research, for the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO-WHO) with the Ministry of Health Interfederative Cooperation for HIV/AIDS in Rio Grande do Sul. He was also a consultant for the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the HIV and Cities program, with the Municipal Health Department of Porto Alegre, and a UNESCO consultant in the Violence Prevention Program with the Rio Grande do Sul Health Department, coordinating the creation of the State level Policy of Health of the LGBT population. He is editor-in-chief of Trends in Psychology, associate editor of PLOS ONE and Frontiers in Psychology, and a member of the editorial board of the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Psychology & Sexuality, and Interamerican Journal of Psychology. He is coordinator of the Working Group of the National Association for Research and Graduate Studies in Psychology (ANPPEP) Intergroup Relations: Prejudice and Social Exclusion and a member of the International Academy of Sex Research (IASR). He is part of the election committee of the Association for Psychological Science (APS), the International Affairs Committee of the Society for Research in Child Development (2019-2021), the International Committee of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (2021-2024) and the SHAPES LGBTQI Thematic Health Systems Global (HSG) Cluster. Angelo also was a fellow member of the Regional Council of Psychology of Rio Grande do Sul (CRP / RS) (2017-2019). He acts as coordinator of projects financed by several Brazilian agencies and has already received several national and international recognition for his work, being the first Latin American researcher to receive the Rising Star from the Association of Psychological Science (APS). Professor do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Psicologia e do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ciências Sociais, e do Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciências Medicina e Ciências da Saúde da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) e coordenador do Grupo de Pesquisa Preconceito, Vulnerabilidade e Processos Psicossociais. Graduado em Psicologia pela Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), especialista em Psicologia Social e em Psicologia em Saúde (CFP), mestre em Psicologia Social e Institucional (PPGPSI/UFRGS), doutor em Psicologia (PPGPSICO/UFRGS) e com estágio pós-doutoral no PPGPSICO/UFRGS. Foi professor visitante na Universidade de Roma Sapienza (CAPES PRINT), lecionando disciplinas na Universidade do Trento e na Universidade de Duisburg-Essen (Internationalen UDE Gastdozierendenprogramm). Atualmente é pesquisador associado do Programa de Identidade de Gênero do Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre (HCPA); Atuau como consultor da UNAIDS na coordenação da pesquisa Stigma Index Brasil. Já foi consultor da Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde (OPAS-OMS) junto ao Ministério da Saúde na Cooperação Interfederativa para o HIV/AIDS do Rio Grande do Sul. Foi consultor do Programa das Nações Unidas para o Desenvolvimento (PNUD) no programa HIV e as Cidades, junto à Secretaria Municipal de Saúde de Porto Alegre, e consultor da UNESCO no Programa de Prevenção à Violência junto à Secretaria de Saúde do Rio Grande do Sul, coordenando a criação de Política Estadual de Saúde da População LGBT. Foi Conselheiro Titular do Conselho Regional de Psicologia do Rio Grande do Sul (CRP/RS) (2017-2019). É editor-chefe da revista Trends in Psychology, editor associado das revistas PLOS ONE e Scientific Research, e membro do conselho editorial das revistas Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Personality and Social Psychology Review, Psychology & Sexuality e Interamerican Journal of Psychology. É coordenador do Grupo de Trabalho da Associação Nacional de Pesquisa e Pós-graduação em Psicologia (ANPPEP) Relações Intergrupais: Preconceito e Exclusão Social e membro da International Academy of Sex Research (IASR). Compõe o election commitee da Association for Psychological Science (APS), o International Affairs Committee da Society for Research in Child Development (2019-2021), o International Committee da Society for Personality and Social Psychology (2021-2024) e o SHAPES LGBTQI Thematic Cluster do Health Systems Global (HSG). Atua como coordenador dos projetos financiados pela chamada ERC-CONFAP-CNPQ 2020, edital ARD 10/2020 FAPERGS, Chamada CNPq/Decit/SCTIE/MS para estudos de Revisões Sistemáticas, Revisões de Escopo e Sínteses de evidências para políticas com foco nas áreas de atenção domiciliar, saúde do adolescente e inquéritos de saúde. Já recebeu diversos reconhecimentos nacionais e internacionais pelo trabalho desenvolvido, sendo o primeiro pesquisador latino-americano a receber o Rising Star da Association of Psychological Science (APS), além disso é um dos 30 líderes do APA Global Psychology Learning Leadership Institute .
