Graduada em Pintura pela Escola de Belas Artes da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1987), e licenciada em Educação Artística pelo Instituto Metodista Bennett (1990), Ana Cavalcanti é mestra (1995) e doutora (1999) em História da Arte pela Université de Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne). Desde 2006 é professora na Escola de Belas Artes da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, atuando no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Artes Visuais da mesma instituição. Tem experiência na área de Artes, com ênfase em História da Arte, trabalhando com os seguintes temas: arte no Brasil, século XIX, crítica de arte e recepção da obra de arte, Salões e exposições de arte, relações entre arte brasileira e europeia. De maio de 2013 a abril de 2014 realizou pesquisa sobre os pintores brasileiros e os Salões de arte em Paris na segunda metade do século XIX (1861 a 1899) no Institut national d'histoire de l'art, França, contando com o apoio da Capes (Estágio Sênior no Exterior). Em 2018, participou da curadoria da exposição "Trabalho de artista: imagem e autoimagem (1826-1929)" na Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, e em 2021 da curadoria da exposição "Múltiplos Olhares: mulheres artistas nas coleções FUNARJ" no Museu do Ingá, em Niterói. Integra os grupos de pesquisa Entresséculos e Modos - História da arte: modos de ver, exibir e compreender.
Graduated in Painting at the Fine Arts School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1987), and licensed by the Methodist Institute for Art Education Bennett (1990), Ana Cavalcanti is master (1995) and PhD (1999) in Art History at the Université Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne). Since 2006 she is Professor at the Fine Arts School of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, working in the Graduate Program in Visual Arts from the same institution. Her researches in Art History emphasize the following topics: nineteenth century art criticism and reception of the artwork, Salons and art exhibitions, connections between Brazilian and European art. From May 2013 to April 2014 she had a sabbatical year for research on "The Brazilian painters and Art Salons in Paris in the second half of the nineteenth century (1861-1899)" at the Institut national d'histoire de l'art, France, with the support of CAPES Foundation, Ministry of Education of Brazil. In 2018, she participated in the curatorship of the exhibition "Artist's work: image and self-image (1826-1929)" at Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, and in 2021 in the curatorship of the exhibition "Multiple views: Women Artists in the FUNARJ Collections" at the Museu do Ingá, in Niterói. She is a member of the research groups Entresséculos and MODOS - History of Art: ways of seeing, displaying and understanding.
