Rodrigo Vitorino Souza Alves is a member of the Faculty of Law of the Federal University of Uberlandia (Brazil). He was an Academic Visitor at the University of Oxford (2014-2015). His teaching and research interests include Constitutional Law, Human Rights, Law and Religion, Inter-religious and Intercultural Dialogue. He leads the Brazilian Center for Studies in Law and Religion, which focuses on religious freedom, protection of religious minorities, anti-discrimination norms and church-state relations. Rodrigo has published academic works and has been invited to speak or presented papers at national (including the National Congress of Brazil, the Human Rights Ministry and several Universities) and international events (incluing the Unviersities of Beijing, Oslo, Cardiff, Oxford, Oxford Brookes, Bielefeld, PUC Uruguay e Paraguay, BYU and Virginia; Fundazione Marcianum in Venice; Senate of Uruguay; OHCHR). At the United Nations Office at Geneva he served as guest speaker at the Sixth Session of the Forum on Minority Issues on "Beyond freedom of religion or belief: Guaranteeing the rights of religious minorities" (OHCHR). Rodrigo is a Researcher at the Ratio Legis - Center for Legal Research and Development of the Autonomous University of Lisbon on the topic religious freedom, social tension and security, he sits at the International Academic Advisory Board of the Advanced Program on Religion and the Rule of Law at Oxford, he is a member of the Editorial Board of the Series "Law and Religion in a Global Context" published by Springer and the editor of the book "Latin American Perspectives on Law and Religion", he is a guest academic at the Sacred and Secular Project (Open University), and also the Brazilian National Reporter for the Constitute Project (Comparative Constitutions Project). Rodrigo collaborated in the creation of the Declaration on Human Dignity for Everyone Everywere (December 2018), was a member of the Expert Advisory Group for the International Development of Law Organization (IDLO) study on freedom of religion or belief. In 2015-2016, he coordinated the project ?Religion and Human Rights: Promoting the Respect for Religious Diversity?, which received the support of the Ministry of Education of Brazil. He is a member of the International Consortium for Law and Religion Studies (ICLARS), Latin American Consortium of Religious Freedom (CLLR) and Law and Religion Scholars Network (LARSN). He is licensed to practice law in Brazil.

Autónoma de Lisboa (Portugal) e Visiting Scholar do International Center for Law and Religion Studies (EUA) e Membro do GT/CNJ sobre a Política Nacional de Promoção à Liberdade Religiosa e Combate à Intolerância no âmbito do Judiciário. Doutor em Direito (Univ. Coimbra - Aprovado com Distinção por Unanimidade), Mestre e Bacharel em Direito (UFU). Na UFU, é coordenador do Núcleo de Direito Constitucional, Direito Internacional e Direitos Humanos, da Área de Extensão Direitos Humanos e Justiça (PROEXC), do Programa de Cooperação UFU-OAB, Ponto-Focal do Programa de Impacto Acadêmico das Nações Unidas e do Pacto Global das Nações Unidas. Tem especial interesse nos temas: direitos humanos, empresas e direitos humanos, proteção dos povos indígenas, liberdade de religião ou crença, direito antidiscriminatório. Tem experiência na coordenação de projetos e programas, incluindo o Programa de Promoção e Educação em Direitos Humanos (UFU, MPT e Justiça do Trabalho), o projeto Liberdade, Igualdade e Não Discriminação: Da Teoria à Prática dos Direitos Humanos (parceria com o Ministério Público do Trabalho), o projeto de Promoção da Liberdade de Religião e Convicções (parceria com o Ministério de Direitos Humanos), o projeto Direitos humanos e religião: em busca do respeito à diferença (com apoio do PROEXT/MEC, aprovado em 4º lugar na categoria Direitos Humanos concorrência nacional), o Curso de Formação de Defensores Populares (parceria UFU, MPF, MPT, DPE e OAB), e o projeto Moot Court (com o Alto Comissariado das Nações Unidas para os Direitos Humanos, de Genebra). Além disso, organiza eventos na área dos direitos humanos com apoio de instituições estrangeiras e nacionais, incluindo-se CAPES, FAPEMIG, Oxford Journals, Escola da AGU, entre outras. Foi bolsista CAPES, QUALIUFU e FAPEMIG, lidera o Centro Brasileiro de Estudos em Direito e Religião - CEDIRE e o Laboratório de Direitos Humanos - LabDH (1º Lugar, 9º Prêmio AMAERJ de Dir. Humanos). Tem livros, artigos e capítulos de livros publicados (Nomos, Springer, Brill, Routledge, entre outras). Proferiu conferências, ministrou cursos e apresentou trabalhos em diferentes eventos e instituições, no Brasil (ex. USP, UFMG, UFSC, PUC-Rio, Congresso Nacional, Assemb. Leg. SP, SDH/MDH, OAB, EAGU) e no exterior (ex. ONU, OEA, Universidades de Pequim, Oslo, Cardiff, Oxford, Oxford Brookes, Bielefeld, PUC Uruguai e Paraguai, BYU, Virginia, Fundazione Marcianum - Veneza, Senado do Uruguai). Palestrante convidado na Sexta Sessão do Fórum sobre Minorias da ONU (Genebra), sendo ainda debatedor das Recomendações aprovadas pelo Conselho de Direitos Humanos (A/HRC/FMI/2013/3) e como especialista convidado perante o Conselho Permanente da OEA (2020). É membro do Conselho Editorial da Série Law and Religion in a Global Context, da Springer, e organizou um dos livros da série, Latin American Perspectives on Law and Religion (2020). Atuou como membro do comitê de especialistas que revisou relatório da International Development of Law Organization - IDLO no campo dos direitos humanos. Participou do projeto The Human Dignity Initiative, pelo qual se elaborou a Declaração sobre a Dignidade Humana. Integrou a equipe de pesquisadores em projeto da Univ. de Oxford (OPBP), que submeteu proposta ao Parlamento (UK) com considerações sobre a elaboração de uma constituição escrita. Integra equipe de pesquisadores em projeto do Centro Norueguês para os Direitos Humanos da Univ. de Oslo sobre restrições à liberdade religiosa no mundo. É o Relator Nacional do Constitute Project. Membro do Conselho Consultivo Internacional do programa "Religion and the Rule of Law at Oxford". É membro de redes internacionais de pesquisadores, incluindo ICLARS, CLLR e LARSN. Habilitado pela OAB.
