Homero Fonseca Filho holds a degree in Agronomic Engineering from the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture, ESALQ, from the University of Sao Paulo, USP, (1984); specialization in Natural Rubber Production from the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (1985); attended the British Council Course Sustainable Agricultural Production held at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom (1993); he holds a Master's degree in Agronomy (Phytotechnics / Agroecology), also from ESALQ /USP (1993) and PhD in Geosciences and Environment from the Institute of Geosciences and Exact Sciences - IGCE of the State University of São Paulo Júlio de Mesquita Filho - UNESP (1999). Also, he holds a certification in Virtual Education from the Simon Fraser University, Canada (2006). He developed a post-doc research and attended a specialization course in the field of Spatial Data Infrastructure and its implementation with open source tools, both from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (2010) and developed a post-doc research in the field of Geoportal Usability in the Geomatic Engineering Department of the University of Concepcion, Chile (2018).
He started his professional career in 1984. He worked at the Rubber Board of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce from 1984 to 1987, at the Forestry Engineering Department of the Federal University of Lavras from 1987 to 2002. He was Full Professor at Professor Franco Montoro Municipal College in 2002. He has been working in the University of Sao Paulo (USP) since 2002. First as Assistant Professor of the Department of Transportation Engineering (in the field of Spatial Information) of the Polytechnic School of Engineering (POLI), where he remained until 2007. He is currently Assistant Professor II and former Coordinator of the BSc in Environmental Management. Also, professor, researcher and advisor of masters and Doctors in the Graduate Program in Sustainability of the School of Arts, Sciences and Humanities - EACH (USP/LESTE). He is former collaborator of the Graduate Program in Environment, Health and Sustainability of the College of Public Health of USP, as well as former collaborator of the Graduate Program in Textile and Fashion at EACH/USP, both in the field of Sustainable Agriculture.
Most of his research and projects are in the fields of Geoprocessing, Geographic Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Mapping and Spatial Data Infrastructure applied to education and to environmental, Forestry and Agronomic Sciences and Sustainable Agriculture. He acts as member of the International Relations Commission (CRInt), as member of the Research Group on Waste, Energy, Health and Environment (RESA) and as leader of the Spatial Data Infrastructure Research Group (GEPIDE) and as of the Geospatial Computing Laboratory (LaCoGeo), both of EACH/USP. He is currently the coordinator of the International Environmental Sustainability Network (Latin America) and member of the Intelligent Virtual Assistants Network for Spatial Data Infrastructures - Red IDEAIS (Europe and Latin America).
Possui graduação em Engenharia Agronômica pela Escola Superior de Agricultura Luiz de Queiroz - ESALQ da Universidade de São Paulo - USP (1984), especialização em Heveicultura ? Produção de Borracha Natural pela Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia (1985), aperfeiçoamento em Produção Agrícola Sustentável pela University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Inglaterra (1993), mestrado em Agronomia - Fitotecnia (Agroecologia), também pela ESALQ/USP (1993), doutorado em Geociências e Meio Ambiente pelo Instituto de Geociências e Ciências Exatas - IGCE da Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho - UNESP (1999), certificação em Educação Virtual pela Simon Fraser University, Canadá (2006), estágio de pesquisa de pós-doutorado e especialização em Infraestrutura de Dados Espaciais e sua implementação com ferramentas abertas pela Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (2010) e estágio de pesquisa de pós-doutorado no Depto de Engenharia Geomática da Universidad de Concepción no Chile (2018).
Em 1984 iniciou a vida profissional. Trabalhou na Superintendência da Borracha do Ministério da Indústria e Comércio entre 1984 e 1987, na Universidade Federal de Lavras de 1987 a 2002, tendo prestado colaboração na Universidade Federal de São Carlos entre 1999 e 2001. Foi Professor Titular na Faculdade Municipal Professor Franco Montoro em 2002. Ingressou na Universidade de São Paulo (USP) em 2002, como Professor Doutor do Departamento de Engenharia de Transportes (Área de Informações Espaciais) da Escola Politécnica (POLI), onde permaneceu até 2007. Atualmente é Professor Doutor II e ex-Coordenador do Bacharelado em Gestão Ambiental, professor, pesquisador e orientador (mestrado e doutorado) no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sustentabilidade da Escola de Artes, Ciências e Humanidades - EACH (USP/LESTE) e ex-colaborador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ambiente, Saúde e Sustentabilidade da Faculdade de Saúde Pública da USP, bem como colaborador do Programa de Pós-graduação em Têxtil e Moda da EACH/USP.
Realiza pesquisas e projetos nas áreas de Geoprocessamento, Sistemas de Informações Geográficas, Sensoriamento Remoto, Cartografia e Infraestrutura de Dados Espaciais aplicados à resolução de problemas das Ciências Ambientais, Florestais e Agronômicas,e à Agricultura Sustentável e Agroecologia. Aplica essas Geotecnologias como ferramenta de apoio ao Desenvolvimento Sustentável e à Sustentabilidade. É membro da Comissão de Relações Internacionais da EACH, membro do Grupo de Pesquisas em Resíduos, Energia, Saúde e Ambiente (RESA). É membro e líder do Grupo de Estudos e Pesquisas em Infraestrutura de Dados Espaciais (GEPIDE) e do Laboratório de Computação Geoespacial (LaCoGeo), todos da EACH/USP. É o coordenador da ?Red Internacional de Sostenibilidad Ambiental? e membro da ?Red IDEAIS - Asistentes Inteligentes para las Infraestruturas de Datos Espaciales?
