Katrin Gelfert obtained her PhD in Mathematics from Technische Universität Dresden (Alemanha) (2001). As pos-doc she visited the Max Planck Institute PKS Dresden (Alemanha), the Instituto Superior Técnico Lisboa (Portugal), the Polish Academy of Sciences Varsóvia (Polônia), the Northwestern University Evanston (EUA) and the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada Rio de Janeiro. Since 2010 she is professor at the Institute of Mathematics (IM) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Her research is in dynamical systems theory and ergodic theory, with particular emphasis on topics related to dimension theory and thermodynamical formalism of nonuniformly hyperbolic dynamical systems. Currently, she is deputy director of the graduate program of the IM-UFRJ. Her scientific collaborations include researchers, besides Brazil, from Chile, France, Germany, and Poland. In 2018, she was plenary speaker at the International Conference on Difference Equations and Applications.

Desde o ano 2010 é professora do Instituto de Matemática (IM) da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). Sua área de pesquisa é sistemas dinâmicos e teoria ergódica, com ênfase em tópicos relacionados com a teoria da dimensão e formalismo termodinâmico de sistemas não uniformemente hiperbólicos. Atualmente é diretora adjunta de pós-graduação do IM-UFRJ. Sua rede ativa de colaboradores inclui, além dos radicados no Brasil, pesquisadores do Chile, França, Alemanha e Polônia. Foi palestrante plenarista do ICDEA (2018).
