Juliana Laura Bruna Viegas

Juliana L. B. Viegas graduated from the Law School of the University of Sao Paulo in 1969; attended graduate Course on Tax Law at the Catholic University - PUC in Sao Paulo, in 1970, and obtained a PhD (Doctorate) degree in Commercial Law from the University of Sao Paulo in 2016. She is an expert in industrial and intellectual property law, and was a partner at the Law Firm of Trench, Rossi e Watanabe Advogados from 1981 to 2004, continuing practicing at the same Law Firm as an advisor until 2006, when whe retired. Dr. Viegas has many articles published in Brazil and abroad in the area of intellectual property and innovation. She is the author of the chapter on Brazil of the book Survey of Foreign Laws and Regulations Affecting International Franchising (American Bar Association, Section of Antitrust Law, 1989); of the chapter Considerations on Compulsory Licenses of the book Immaterial Property, published by the Sao Paulo State Bar Association in 2006; of the four chapters relating to Industrial Property Contracts of the book Industrial Property Contracts and New Technologies of the series GVLaw, 2007 and of the chapter The Difficult Balance between Protection to Intellectual Property and Incentives to Innovation, in the book Themes on Intellectual Property, published by Gusmão & Labrunie, 2013. Dr. Viegas was elected President of the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property - ABPI for the terms 1996/19997 and 1998/1999, and was re-elected as ABPI President for the term 2008/2009. She is now a permanent member of the Advisory Board of ABPI. Dr. Viegas was President of the Advisory Board of the State of Sao Paulo Association of Intellectual Property - ASPI from 2014 to 2017, and was a Study Director of the Brazilian Chapter of LES - Licensing Executives Society. Dr. Viegas was an invited professor to teach graduate courses on Industrial Property Contracts at the Law School of the Getulio Vargas Foundation (GVLaw), in Sao Paulo, and at the Catholic University - PUC in Rio de Janeiro. She has teached Intellectual Property Contracts at the Superior School of Advocacy of the Sao Paulo Bar Association (ESA) and at several other institutions, such as, among others, at INSPER, São Paulo, 2019.

Juliana L.B. Viegas formou-se pela Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de São Paulo em 1969; fez Curso de Extensão Universitária em Direito Tributário pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica - PUC de São Paulo em 1970. e Doutorado em Direito Comercial pela Universidade de São Paulo em 2016. Especializou-se em propriedade industrial e intelectual, tendo sido sócia do escritório Trench, Rossi e Watanabe Advogados de 1981 até 2004, continuando como consultora até 2006. Tem inúmeros artigos publicados no Brasil e no exterior na área de propriedade intelectual e inovação. É autora do Capítulo sobre o Brasil do livro Survey of Foreign Laws and Regulations Affecting International Franchising (American Bar Association, Section of Antitrust Law, 1989), do capítulo Considerações sobre Licenças Compulsórias do livro Propriedade Imaterial, publicado pela OAB/SP em 2006; dos quatro capítulos referentes a Contratos de Propriedade Industrial do livro Contratos de Propriedade Industrial e Novas Tecnologias da série GVLaw, 2007 e do capítulo "O Difícil Equilíbrio entre a Proteção à Propriedade Intelectual e o Estímulo à Inovação" no livro Temas de Propriedade Intelectual, publicado por Gusmão & Labrunie, 2013. Foi Presidente da ABPI - Associação Brasileira da Propriedade Intelectual nos mandatos de 1996/1997 e de 1998/1999, tendo sido novamente eleita para a Presidência da ABPI para o biênio 2008/2009, sendo atualmente membro vitalício do Conselho Diretor da ABPI. Foi Presidente do Conselho Consultivo da ASPI - Associação Paulista da Propriedade Intelectual de 2014 a 2017. Foi Diretora de Estudos da LES Brasil (Associação Brasileira de Executivos de Licenciamento). Foi professora convidada dos cursos de pós-graduação em Contratos de Propriedade Industrial da Faculdade de Direito de São Paulo (GVLaw), de São Paulo e da Pontifícia Universidade Católica -PUC, do Rio de Janeiro, bem como da ESA - Escola Superior de Advocacia da OAB/SP, de São Paulo. Ministrou cursos de Contratos de Propriedade Industrial em diversas entidades, entre as quais no INSPER, São Paulo, em 2019.
